This doesn't usually work out, but I know it might sometime, if I get lucky!

I am working on adding a few playing dates in NY City area this summer. Tue Aug 1 or Wed Aug 2 would be particularly good - but I could be available again in the next week; say Aug 9 - 12ish.

I will very likely do a small concert in Jersey City on one of those dates, 30 - 50 people or so and that is in the works - but I'd like to add another one or two.

What are the Celtic and/or songwriter venues ... or pubs I should be looking at??

For those who don;t know me, here's a sample of MY MUSIC

Since you're already crossing the river, I'll give you a few more possibilites in commuting distance. The three in Montclair are an easier train ride than across the city...

http://tierneystavern.bizland.com/   -- very eclectic music offerings but a good crowd of people

http://www.hurdygurdyfolk.org/page3.html    May be too late this year, but this looks like a great contact not that far from the city.

http://www.eganandsons.com/ This a great new spot that is walking distance from the train. ( Easier than getting from one side of the city to another.) Occaisionally has music an may be interested.

http://www.cabinconcerts.com/been.html   found this in a search and it looks real interesting... I can easily get you from train to Wayne if it worked out

Besides maybe we could get Mick to come up the rest of the way ....

Good Luck

In New York City try the Baggot Inn on West 3rd Street. You can find them through Google.

Cabin Concerts are closing down for good after a run of more that 10 years. Their last concert will be on this coming Sunday with Ellis Paul. You can also try the Turning Point in Piermont, NY or the Towne Crier in Pawling, NY. Both are accessable by public transportation from NYC. They have shows in the middle of the week. I would like to have you at the Borderline Folk Music Club in Rockland County, NY but I can only draw audiences on weekends when I assume you are already booked.

There are a couple of trans-genders in the north - while not desperate - they may be available for a fling.

Thanks for your help, folks. I am heading to Kansas City right now but I'll look into these when I come back on Monday.

Jed, there are lots of venues in New York City. Most do their bookings two or three months in advance. Unless you are a big name, they usually give you just a one-hour set and a share of the gate (cover) from people who say they are coming to hear you. Typically, these places have three to five acts an evening, each doing a single hour, which means you have to bring in your own audience. If someone comes and pays $5 or $10 to hear Joe Shmoe and then stays to hear you, Joe Shmoe gets the money and you don't. If that doesn't bother you, here are some places to contact:

Baggot Inn: 212-477-0622

CB's 313 Gallery: 212-677-0455

Orange Bear: 212-566-3705

Sidewalk Cafe: 212-473-7373

Triad Lounge: 212-362-2590

169 Bar: 212-437-8866

Try Carla who runs the Greenwich Village Bistro, 13 carmine st. 212 206 9777, you put a large jug on the table and if the punters like you they fill it with money. We were in for a meal ( the food is great) when the entertainment buggered off (an awful pianist) because he wasn't getting any money, we were asked to step in. We shunned the jug 'cos we were on a night off (and rather pissed, doubtful quality!) but we had our $160 dollar tab wiped off and it was great fun and we were well recieved......and we sing english trad. folk!
Also had our bar tab in Chumleys wiped off earlier in the evening ( in from 5 pm 'til 7pm rehearsing! drinking etc ($45). Although we didn't ask for the tabs to be cleared we would have cheerfully done it for nothing, when we offered to pay they said it was ok .
At least a free meal at Carla's gaff would be worth it!
regards
Peter

Try Hoboken. Right next to Jersey City. There's an Irish Place called Quay on Sinatra Drive that has good music. There are tons of Bars within 1 square mile. Even Better--The Goldhawk on 10th & something. (wish I could be more help--but I'm bad with knowing where things are) Smaller pub places would be McSwiggins on bloomfield & 1st or Duffy's on Bloomfield and 4th or fifth. The big music venue is Maxwell's on Washington and 12th.

I'm sure you could find something about these places online.

Tell us if you find anything!   And what is the info for the Jersey City gig?

Looks like I got this covered. I'll post etails soon - but I believe I'll be in Jersey City on Wed Aug 2 at a pub called Iron Monkey. The rest I booked in Catskills and in New England.

I made lotsa calls - got almost NO reply. The concert venues seem to shut down for summer - next year I'llput more effort into it - but I lucked out with a few good ones, and some house concerts at friendly places. It'sa quick trip. It'll work.

;-)
