Subject: RE: Cheshire area circa 1970 From: Richard Bridge Date: 15 Mar 06 - 05:34 PM I was in Chester a bit later, maybe 74/5. You may want to come at this sideways and see if you can trace the people who ran the "Mucky Duck" folk club there. I didn't use it because it was very concert oriented, and now I can't even remember the name of the pub I used to sing in. |
Subject: RE: Cheshire area circa 1970 From: GUEST,Nicholas Waller Date: 15 Mar 06 - 05:57 PM Googling: "pete bethell" cooke gets you an email address for Cooke and his duo Stroll On with Bethell, presumably the same one. |

Subject: RE: Cheshire area circa 1970 From: GUEST,Nicholas Waller Date: 16 Mar 06 - 07:25 AM I did google some other names as an exercise, and the only Eddie McGale I could find (it's a surprisingly unusual name in webland, it seems, even as Ed, Eddie, Edward or Eddy) was a Dr Eddy McGale who died in February; he was a hockey coach, presumably part-time, but had a repertoire of "boardy" songs he sang in the showers. http://www.cnwhc.com/club_news_latest.asp?nid=5 has a picture as well. |

Subject: RE: Cheshire area circa 1970 From: GUEST,Brendan Fox Date: 08 Feb 13 - 03:49 PM Just came across this March 06 post .Was trying to find Eddie , a friend of mine from school days . Sadly , just found he died in 2006 . Have not located an obituary yet but am still trying . Eddie ( b 1942) lived in Leigh and was at De La Salle , Salford till 1957 . Family then moved to Crosby where he went to Merchant Taylors . BSc in Chemistry from Liverpool , PhD from Manchester . Eddie got his first guitar in Crosby - remember it well !! Eddie was a researcher at University of North Staffs Hospital ( now Keele) for many years .Published several scientific papers. Later taught at Newcastle under Lyme .At time of his death he had been living in Warwick for a while . From a colleague of his , I heard that a folk group of his( in Stoke area ?) did very well with an album including "Streets of London" - maybe won some award? Did find couple of photos of Eddie from a comedy night of the Warwick Folk Group , then under name "Oak Room Folk Club ". Eddie was on stage doing an impression of Ozzy Osbourne complete with wig - so hopefully was still enjoying life and having some fun . Hope this helps . A reminder to stay in touch with old friends - gone before you know it ! |
Subject: RE: Cheshire area circa 1970 From: GUEST,Brendan Fox Date: 08 Feb 13 - 04:07 PM Forgot to ask - any details on the re-issued albums you were writing sleeve notes on ? Also would appreciate name of any earlier recordings with Eddie included in group.Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Cheshire area circa 1970 From: Mo the caller Date: 09 Feb 13 - 05:55 AM The comment about "researcher at University of North Staffs Hospital ( now Keele) for many years" caught my eye. I wasn't sure when Keele's medical school started - wiki says 2002. So maybe the hospital was called something else before then. Aha, wiki says there were 3 hospitals in N Staffs which merged. Not sure I have the details of timing straight yet. Irrelevant perhaps for sleeve-notes relating to an earlier time. |
