Ever since I started putting HP on my french fries, I've even considered using ketchup.... on anything...

"with a little Tabasco"
So yer adding vinegar to vinegar? Sounds pretty redundant to me...

Harry Palmer? So is the Funeral of Danone's ownership taking place in Berlin?

ok i looked it up HP = Harry Palmer
http://www.hpfoods.com/brands/hpsauce/
and the giant food company Heinz has bought the company
and from this report:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4110006.stm
there is mention of the brand we see in the US:
"Danone had bought HP Foods - which also makes sauces
under the Lea & Perrins brand - for £199m from Hanson in 1998."

and it is no longer owned by the French company, since June...
UK-based HP Foods, which also makes sauces under the Lea & Perrins, Daddies and Amoy names, was sold by French group Danone in June.

sounds like these companies are being tossed around
like hot potatoes...

is this discussion about Worchestershire sauce, then?
Sorcha knows how to make it...we got some tamarind from
a thai food catalog to put in it...that is the hardest
ingredient to find...and that may be ine secret ingredient
that gives it the flavor...no, wait, it is probably the
unspecified spices what ever those are...

the most commonly available brande in the U.S. is
http://www.lea-perrins.com/selecta.php\

here is a recipe--but who in the world knows what sauce sauce is??
http://www.recipesource.com/side-dishes/sauces/02/rec0200.html
I think the recipe often contains anchovies..
and this one has ginger:
http://www.recipesource.com/side-dishes/sauces/worcestershire01.html

is it really pronounced "wooster"?
here is the wikipedia entry:

Cousin's barbecue sauce is the one I prefer if I'm planning to spill it on my HP. (Though what I spilled on the HP yesterday was Diet Rite cola)

I think HP sauce tastes a lot like A1 Sauce in the US. I like it on some things.

No you've got it all wrong, the best sauce is good old British gravy.

There is no sauce in the known universe which can compare favorably with that of The Pig Barbecue in Jacksonville, Florida. It is a fact. It is well-known that all references to "ambrosia" or "manna" in ancient religious tracts were originally references to Pig Barbecue sauce but had to be changed because it would be too much work for the priests to have to explain how their various gods were able to partake of something that wouldn't be created for thousands of years.

Foolestroupe, HP's Brown Sauce isn't it? Are you thinking of Tomato Ketchup? In the UK, 'HP' means brown sauce and 'Red Sauce'means tomato ketchup. You'd get some very funny looks if someone asked you to pass the HP and you gave them tomato ketchup. LOL!

We don't seem to have Daddies Sauce in the US. Guess I'll have to stick with HP. It can be improved with a little Tabasco.
