Judge Roy Bean died at about age 78
on 3/19/1903
(birth unrecorded but probably in Kentucky)

        Cowboys, come and hear the story of Roy Bean in all his glory,
        "The law west of Pecos," read his sign.
        We must let our ponies take us to a town on lower Pecos
        Where the High Bridge spans the canyon thin and fine.    [it was 321 feet high]
        He was born one day in Toyah [Texas] where he learned to be a lawyer...

                "The Song of Roy Bean," probably by CJ Finger;
                in Songs from Lawless Lands, per Lomax

Early warning notice: This series of the Happy File noncontinues beginning April 16.
