Thanks Peace,

My local record store, ZAPS in Cobourg, Ontario can usually get me anything I ask for, but they told me that Baby Let Me Lay It On You has been discontinued.

artistdirect.com has this as a free download (Is there such a thing?),I just listened to part of it and it sounds pretty authentic.
Interesting guy, quite a painter too.

It's only a very small portion of the song - not enough to get the meaning but it is to the tune of 'The Circle'.

Just for the heck of it, I got down what I could from the sample. Here's what I heard:

...serpent be housebroken?
He'd rather die, buddy, he'd rather die.
When the turnstile won't take-a my token,
Pass right by, buddy, pass right by.

Circumnavigation is a mighty fine motion
But it's all been tried, buddy, it's all been tried.
But circumcision in the cloakroom...

It's an intriguing snippet, but hardly enlightening about the whole noise.

Claire

I thought some of my sites where I search for used books listed music also, but I just checked--apparently not. Looks like it's a trip down to the used music store, or try eBay.

Here's a bit more from a sound sample at allmusic.com:

But circumcision in the cloakroom
It ain't advised, buddy, it ain't advised.

Can the circle....

BTW, BWL's picture-link above is that classic instrument, the cornholio, FWIW. OTOH YMMV.

Eric Von Schmidt's father was an interesting chap is his own right. Harold Von Schmidt did 'scene painting' for Hollywood movies including some with John Wayne in Monument Valley. Here he is shown at work...
