Subject: RE: Happy 70th Birthday Roger Whittaker ! From: GUEST,smiler Date: 24 Mar 06 - 03:05 PM Hey cynic How do we know he isn't reading this? People google themselves to read this sort of thing. That's if he doesn't lurk around anyway. Roger if you're checking in, all the best and may you have many more birthdays. |
Subject: RE: Happy 70th Birthday Roger Whittaker ! From: Purple Foxx Date: 24 Mar 06 - 12:41 PM I took umbrage at Roger Whittaker when I was 7 because of the implication that the Tyne runs through Durham (It's the Wear) As a mark of respect to this underappreciated singer on this auspicious occasion I hereby officially end this feud. At long last he can sleep safely in his bed. HBTY |

Subject: RE: Happy 70th Birthday Roger Whittaker ! From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Mar 06 - 12:31 PM I saw him in Sacramento some twenty years ago, and I didn't expect to like him. Half of the concert was easy-listening music and his "greatest hits" and was about what I expected - tolerable, but not what I like. The other half of the concert was a wide variety of folk songs, many from Africa - and I really enjoyed it. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Happy 70th Birthday Roger Whittaker ! From: SunnySister Date: 24 Mar 06 - 11:11 AM Dave, are you serious?? You can have the "Mexican Whistler" as a cell phone song?? I'm going to have to do some checking! I actually have the "Mexican Hatdance" as my song right now (I know boring but true- my family used to have a cockatiel that used to dance like a crazy fiend when we whistled that song. I think ole Winston would have had a heart attack dancing if Mr. Whittaker had visited us and performed for the bird! :) I was just thinking this morning that there aren't a lot of singers who combine whistling into their songs and Mr. Whittaker has done both in a great many song songs. I think that would be hard to do. LOL Thanks for joining me in wishing him the best! I appreciate it! P.S. Dear Villian- if Mr. Whittaker ever came to sing at your club, PLEASE let me know and I will fly from San Franciso to wherever you are! With pleasure! |
Subject: RE: Happy 70th Birthday Roger Whittaker ! From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Mar 06 - 05:04 AM P.S. Did any of you know that Mr. Whittaker is an amazing whistler? I had forgotten until a couple of weeeks ago when son no. 2 received a phone call on his mobile and Mr W's 'Mexican Whistler' began to play! To be able to sing like that AND whistle as well - Some people have all the talent:-) Happy Birthday Roger. Dave the Gnome |
Subject: RE: Happy 70th Birthday Roger Whittaker ! From: Rasener Date: 23 Mar 06 - 04:13 AM First song that came into mind before opening this thread was "I don't beleive in if anymore" Don't know why. I knew he was a whistler, becuase many many years ago, before he became famous, he used to be on a 5 or 10 minute tv programme around 11pm and he used to do lots of whistling on that programme. Trouble is, it was so long ago, I can't remember the programme anymore - was it an illusion, was it an illusion :-) Many happy returns Roger Whittaker - you can always come and give us a gig at my folk club (I can dream can't I). :-) |
Subject: Happy 70th Birthday Roger Whittaker ! From: SunnySister Date: 22 Mar 06 - 10:04 AM Please help me sending warm thoughts to one of the most beautiful of voices: Roger Whittaker is celebrating his 70th birthday today and his 45th year in music! While he's officially not saying he'll retire, he is slowing down his concert schedule significantly and will only be on tour in Germany in 2007. If you are interested, here's his official website: http://www.rogerwhittaker.com/ My father's all-time favorite song was Mr. Whittaker's "Last Farewell" although I would have to say I love "Durham Town", "Dirty Old Town," "I Don't Believe in If Anymore," and of course, the song that started him, "New World in the Morning" just as much. Happy Birthday, dear man, you've added such musical beauty to my life. -- SunnySister P.S. Did any of you know that Mr. Whittaker is an amazing whistler? Yup! :) |
