I carelessly refered to the High Level Ranters as the Status Quo of the Folk World, perhaps they are the Stones or perhaps more appropriately the Animals.

I enjoy folk much more than rock but rock has raw excitement and so do the Ranters. In the same spirit Is Ray Fisher Tina Turner? What does that make Matin Carthy?Is John Tamms Bruce Springstein? Is Ashley Hutchins and his Albions in some strange way related to Mark E Smith and the 47 people who have been through the Fall?

And furthermore if Derek Brimstone is seen as a Sceaming Lord Sutch type figure, then surely Magic Lantern were more of a post David Bowie phenomenon...
