amo,

You can find this popular song by looking up Moon River at http://www.summer.com.br/~pfilho/html/main_index/index.html. This is a good site for hit songs from 1930 -1998.

Enjoy the song!

Love Moonriver- one of my greatest memories from teenage dances at the old, cold country hall in little old rural New Zealand.

Bye from Marion

Do you have lyrics to:

Moon River by Johnny Mercer

Fraline (not sure of spelling, means girl in German.
Some words are: Fraline, Fraline, walk down
by the ocean and pretend that
your hand is holding mine.
By the stars above you I swear
that I love you. You are my
pretty fraline.

Mary Black has a nice cover of this on her CD. I hadn't even thought of this song for ages and just rediscovered it, thanks to Mudcat, when I bought the Heart of a Woman CDs (Irish female musicians' compilations - I & II) and discovered Mary Black and then had to order her own CD...

Check it out.

Moon River
(lyrics by Johnny Mercer, music by Henry Mancini, 1961)

Moon River,
Wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style
Some day
Old dream maker,
You heart breaker,
Wherever you're going,
I'm going your way

Two drifters,
Off to see the world,
There's such a lot of world
To see
We're after the same
Rainbow's end
Waiting 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend,
Moon River
And me

I Overlooked An Orchid
by Carl Smith
Written by C. Smith, C. Story, S. Lynn
Recorded 07/18/1950

VERSE !:
(G)The orchid is a flower (G7)that (C)blooms so (G)tender'ly
To thrill the fairest lady of the (D7)land
If (G)placed beside a blush'in (G7)rose
the (C)rose could not (G)compare
But how was such as (D7)I to under-(G)stand

CHORUS:
(G)I over looked an orchid while (C)search-ing for a (G)rose
The orchid that I over looked was (D7)you
The (G)rose that I was search-ing (G7)for, has (C)proved to be un-(G)true
The orchid now I (D7)find my dear was (G)you

VERSE 2:
The (G)rose has lost its color
But the (C)orchid is the (G)same
And I'm alone to face these lone-ly (D7)years
I (G)didn't see the orchid
I was look-(C)ing for a (G)rose
And now I pay the (D7)price with bitter (G)tears

REPEAT CHORUS:

I'll be marketing world peace in an exclusive contract with McDonalds and it will be called "McPeace". Or you can buy a "Peacemeal".

Something I noticed a few years ago when I saw Breakfast at Tiffanys was that Audry Hepburn was really playing the guitar during this song. Nothing bugs me more in a movie than to see some actor gripping the guitar like a baseball bat sliding their hands up and down and not doing anything that resembles a chord. But Audry Hepburn gave every apprence of being able to play the guitar. For that matter so did Kirk Douglas in "20,000 Leauges Under The Sea". Sorry - that was some kind of Uke. But it impressed me anyway.

Henry Mancini said that Audrey Hepburn's version of Moon River was his favourite among the thousands he had heard.

All dysentery aside........"Breakfast at Tiffanys" is one of our favorite movies and for Karen and I, Audrey could do no wrong. Wonderful and beautiful actress, but an even more warm and compassionate person.

At last!! something that Catspaw and I disagree on! Lousy movie, wonderful woman. I mean really: George Peppard? Mickey Rooney? Did anyone involved with the film ever read the original story? Travesty.

Boy, I sure wanted that cat (Cat!) and George Peppard run over in a two car pileup. Or Buddy Ebsen appearing suddenly again with a musket and letting loose.

Sorry, am I the only person in the world who hasn't seen that film?

Sung the song though - dressed as a clown with wire in my plaited hair so they stuck out, whilst standing with the rest of my choir who were in their robes, on a stage, in a field, with two giants looking on..... We sang 'going round the bend' once as a mistake and it sort of stuck....

Sorry...
