I've found a number of programs (all shareware) which perform various conversions. They are

Awave- imports and converts audio formats such as AIFF, AVI, to formats such as GSM, SDS - the MIDI sample dump standard.

DISCMAID - takes music from CD and outputs to cassette. wav files to RealAudio

WinDAC32 - takes CD tracks and converts to MP3

MPEG Encoder - wav to MPEG conversion.

Another program for converting wav to MP3 (MPEG 1 layer 3) is the freeware "Plugger". Track it down from While you're there have a good look around the site.
