Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm in heaven when I'm in my mother's ar From: Louie Roy Date: 28 Mar 06 - 10:38 PM These are the words I remember to the song (I'm in heaven when I'm in my mother's arms)I know some of them are not correct but with the help of Peace and a couple of others the correct lyrics can be posted.I learned it in the 1930s. Once a little lad feeling mighty bad Wouldn't learn his lessons as he should The teacher shook her head looked at him and said Son you'll be sorry if you don't be good You'll never go to heaven when you die He looked at her and made this reply I don't have to die to go to heaven There's an angel here on earth that I love She's the queen of the old armed chair And she's sweeter than any angel up above She's my mother she's my guardian and protector And she keeps me from all harm I don't have to die to go to heaven I'm in heaven when I'm in my mother's arms I know these words are not all correct, but my foggy brain now isn't as sharp as it was 81 years ago |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm in heaven when I'm in my mother's ar From: Rabbi-Sol Date: 28 Mar 06 - 10:48 PM Louie, The complete song is on the MP3 sung by William Robyn on the website that I listed earlier on this thread. Robyn sings the song very slow and clear so you can easily transcribe the lyrics just by listening to it. SOL ZELLER |
Subject: Lyr Add:I'M IN HEAVEN WHEN I'M IN MY MOTHER'S ARMS From: Peace Date: 28 Mar 06 - 10:51 PM Naughty little lad acting mighty bad Wouldn't do his lessons as he should Teacher shook her head looked at him and said You'll be sorry if you don't be good You'll never go to heaven when you die Then the lad made this reply I don't have to die to go to heaven There's a heaven here on earth I love Where I can hear the voice of an angel Just as sweet as any angel up above She's queen of just a plain old rocking chair When she holds me safe from harm So I don't have to die to go to heaven I'm in heaven when I'm in my mother's arms Repeat second stanza I listened to the mp3 (provided by Sol) which is quite clear, Louis. There are the 'correct' words. Ain't the folk process wonderful? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req:I'm in Heaven when I'm in My Mother's Arms From: GUEST,ronrico15 Date: 27 Oct 13 - 05:24 PM The lyrics submitted by Peace are the ones sung by Henry Burr on his Columbia recording of this tune. It is pure pathos, and beautifully sung. I am not aware of this having yet been re-recorded onto modern media. |
Subject: Lyr Add: I'M IN HEAVEN WHEN I'M IN MY MOTHER'S ARM From: Jim Dixon Date: 28 Oct 13 - 03:30 PM From the sheet music at Mississippi State University. There is another copy at The Maine Music Box: I'M IN HEAVEN WHEN I'M IN MY MOTHER'S ARMS Words by Howard Johnson and Cliff Hess; music by Milton Ager. New York: Leo Feist, Inc., ©1920. 1. Naughty little lad, acting mighty bad, Wouldn't do his lessons as he should. Teacher shook her head, looked at him and said: "You'll be sorry if you don't be good. You'll never go to heaven when you die. Then the lad made this reply: CHORUS: I don't have to die to go to heaven. There's a heaven here on earth I love, Where I can hear the voice of an angel Just as sweet as any angel up above. She's queen of just a plain old rocking chair, Where she holds me safe from harm, So I don't have to die to go to heaven; I'm in heaven when I'm in my mother's arms. 2. While she gazed at him, teacher's eyes grew dim. Mem'ry painted dreams of long ago Of the time when she sat on mother's knee, List'ning to a song so sweet and low. "You've learned your lesson," teacher softly sighed. Once again the lad replied: CHORUS. [Does anybody else find it creepy that a teacher (or anybody) would tell a kid "You'll never go to heaven when you die" because he "wouldn't do his lessons"?] |
