In an effort to locate and identify all extant recordings of Almeda Riddle, your help is requested.
Do you have or know of ANY recordings of Almeda Riddle at Folk Festivals or concerts? Can you provide the date and song titles?
If you attended any of the following, and made tapes, you may have
recordings: Berkeley Folk Festival, Chicago Folk Festival, Eisteddfod, Frontier Folklife Festival, National Folk Festival, Newport Folk Festival, Smithsonian Folklife Festival, et.al.
Thank you for your help! Thomas Stern.

Sternth, that is quite a challenge. I will see what I can do about a listing of the dates and songs she did at the Ozark Folk Center.

May I ask what your purpose is in asking?

Have you checked out her recordings from the Max Hunter and John Quincy Wolfe collections?

Thomas: I wonder if it might help if you were to post your already extensive list in order to avoid unnecessary duplication?

From 1973-1984 we have at least 68 songs recorded by Almeda at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, AR, including her very last public performance on June 15, 1984, with her last song being Time Has Made A Change In Me.

There are an additional seven songs recorded in Heber Springs, AR plus three interviews. I have not checked out these recordings, just compiled the information from our logs. Accuracy not guaranteed. I may have missed some.

Getting this compiled properly (and as accurately as possible) is going to take some time. It is not likely that I will have it before next week.

Also, recordings of Almeda and the other participants at the 1963 Arkansas Folk Festival are available from Lyon College, Batesville, AR.

If I am remembering correctly, Almeda performed at the 1971 University of Chicago Folk Festival. The evening concerts were recorded by WFMT, and are now held by the Chicago Public Library. It might be worth asking the CPL for help locating the relevant recordings from their collection.

Dale,

I see that you post quite a lot and seem to have extensive knowledge of folk music. I work at the Oxford American magazine and I have been conducting some research on artists like Jim Ringer and Almeda Riddle. I would love to correspond with you about these artists and a couple of others.

Thanks,

Natalie Ramm
