I give Kendall best four falls in seven. Even without a belaying pin I think Kendall can drop Phillips three out of six. Then it's just Hobb's choice on the seventh fall but Kendall gets my money on the tie breaker.

I just hope my voice holds out. We planned to do this years ago but then he had the heart problem, and had to cut way back.

It's not often one gets to work with someone whom they admire above most other performers, and I am so honored to be asked to share the stage with this icon.
As I wrote in his new brochure, "I don't have many heros, but Utah Phillips is certainly one of them."

Oh well, if I fall on my face I still get to visit California and some Mudcatters.

Nah, nah. Too far for Kendall's Maine supporters - but Maine is too far for anyone else.

Now if they got together at '07 Old Songs, that would be a good compromise. The fact that it's near me has nothing to do with it.

If the rematch was held in Maine there would be accommodation for a certain number of Mudcatters around and about.

Lots of good thoughts please for the Cap'n on the 8th. If everybody gives just a smidgeon of voice power he'll sail through the evening with no trouble.

I just got a major scare. Been having back pain, so had an X ray and it showed an abdominal aortic aneurism. 3.5 cm, so this am I had an ultra sound and the doctor said it is small, and nothing to worry about.

Well, i am in a video production class at the local community college.
If this was in our area we would be glad to document the event by
taping at the concert. We are, however, going to be busy a couple of hours away that night recording Garnet Rogers at a concert in Chico.
I tell you that to tell you this.....there may be a video class at
a local school near you and if you ever are interested in producing
a video of a concert, you might be able to get one by offering it as
a class project. Our Radio, Television and Film department has a mobile studio (motor home/van) which travels to all sorts of events (our motto is "From Ballet to Bull Riding") and do a 3 or 4 camera shoot which is edited on the fly and at the end of the event we offer a copy of the original to the performer. Many artists have been quite happy to have a video to use as a demo tape, or to make copies to sell for a fund raiser, etc. We are just changing over to be able to offer DVD format, too. We also do studio interviews so that anyone who has a topic to speak about, a program they want to promote, or an interesting life story to preserve we tape it and it is broadcast over the community access t.v. station.

i wanted to have the class record utah's performance in chico last december, but the room was so crowded with people already that there was not room to maneuver our camera gear!   It would have been a great performance to tape as he was in fine form!! Best of health to all of you.

I have all of Kendall's CDs, a privately produced video, his LPs and book. Plus the old crank and his dog and wife make a habit of appearing at my back door unannounced to drink my tea and coffee. I once actually got to perform with Captain Morse but he hasn't asked me to repeat the act - seems I screwed up.

I have also had the amazing pleasure of sharing a meal with Utah Phillips who wrote down one of Nana Sullivan's famous aphorisms for further use.

Do not miss the opportuntiy to see either one of these men in concert! The two of them together - WOW! I can't afford the trip or I would be there.

And a delight to listen to.....Beginner's Luck will have you driving along in your car, by yourself, and laughing outloud at Kendall's stories...then having you sneak a peek out the windows to see if other drivers noticed and are looking at you kinda funny. And you'll be singing along at the top of your lungs on the others! It's wonderful!

Dani, do check the Utah Phillips website (I'd do a blue clicky but haven't a clue how). Phillips is a masterful songwriter, great story teller, powerful performer, good punster, and high-quality political person. Well, maybe political is the wrong word; he's much more a believer in direct action. And I have all 100 hours of his Loafer's Glory radio show.
