Subject: RE: BS: Shakespeare 'first folio' for sale From: John O'L Date: 31 Mar 06 - 04:40 PM Damn. I guess there's no point putting on ebay now. I was hoping to get about $12 million for it, considering it's got so much more in it and it's so much more recent. Probably in better condition too. |

Subject: RE: BS: Shakespeare 'first folio' for sale From: John O'L Date: 31 Mar 06 - 04:30 PM I don't know what the big deal is. I've got a copy of the complete works. I fart on the first folio. Oh, and if it's notes in the margin you want Windsinger, there are plenty of those in mine. |

Subject: RE: BS: Shakespeare 'first folio' for sale From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 31 Mar 06 - 04:08 PM The folio will be sold in Sotheby's London salesrooms. The estimate is $5.1-$7.1 million Canadian. The original printing was 750 and the price was one guinea. About one-third survive, but some are in poor condition. In 2001, a copy sold in New York for $6.5 million at Christie's. Sotheby's is "quietly confident" that the volume will beat this price. The record price for a book is $8.8 million for Audobon's "Birds of America." The Calgary Herald, article from The Telegraph, March 31, 2006 |

Subject: RE: BS: Shakespeare 'first folio' for sale From: Windsinger Date: 31 Mar 06 - 03:27 PM Purple, I WISH that's something I could realistically ask for. :/ What's really killin' me is the thought of all those 17th-century handwritten scribbles in the margins. Who wrote them? What were they saying? What did they think of the material? Like it, hate it, "meh,-I-like-Kit-Marlowe's-stuff-better"? (Or was it just a grocery list?) RrrRrrrgh. Maddening. One thing's for sure: William ain't gettin' no royalties from it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shakespeare 'first folio' for sale From: Windsinger Date: 30 Mar 06 - 05:30 PM I just wanna know what obnoxiously rich bastard's got that much to plunk down and walk away with it. If they held onto it for 290 years and are just now parting with it, that library must be seriously hurtin' for cash. Slán, ~Fionn www.geocities.com/children_of_lir |
