Tcikets for the Bellowhead concert this Saturday (8th April) have sold out. Season tickets and day tickets will no longer be available although individual concert tickets for the Saturday and day tickets for the Friday and Sunday are still available.

The main attractions on Friday are The Old Swan Band ceilidh and the Oxford Waits. Main concerts on the Saturday are On English Ground and Waterson:Carthy with Magpie Lane and the John Dipper Band, Chris Wood with Horses Brawl and Jo Freya. The main acts on Sunday are Black Umfolosi, Steve Ashley, Andy Irvine, Flook, Bill Caddick and Snaketown and Steindór Andersen with Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson + Andy Cronshaw.

There are plenty of interesting acts on the second stage and free events being hosted at the castle.

"HiCan anyone give me any info on possible English Sessions at Oxford F.F., 7th - 9th April - either formal ie listed in the Programme, or 'fringe'?Only, I've not been to the Oxford Festival before (despite previous good intentions), but will probably end up there at least on the Saturday,as my boyfriend's playing on the Friday night.ThanksDiane

Hi there,

We'll have sessions on at the following places:

SATURDAY
The Old Tom (sessions) - the Old Tom is directly opposite the Town Hall and completely non-smoking
Half Moon (sessions)
Far From the Madding Crowd (sessions)

SUNDAY
The Old Tom (sessions)
Half Moon (sessions)
Far From the Madding Crowd (sessions including French music session 12pm-2pm)

Derek and Mary from Banbury are hosting a singing session at the Castle Marquee on Saturday afternoon

I dare says some others may spring up about the place

We've got a messagboard too which you can get to via www.oxfordfolkfestival.com and follow the link.

See you about the place maybe

Cheers

Fi "

The French music session is good news, I'll try to get to that. Are the other sessions mentioned English, Irish or mixed? I'll check out the forum too.

Thanks for your help so far.

Chris

Well, to answer my own question, also copied from melodeon.net:-

"Old Tom I think will tend towards the English end of things...otherwise I can't really be sure!. "

Just got back from the festival. Brilliant, missed Bellowhead and Martin Carthy, but the best bit for me was "On English Ground" WOW.

A very good festival, indeed. I must mention the outstanding performance from Black Umfolosi at midday on Sunday, when many of us were nursing hangovers. It made me completely forget mine!

Yes I did hear the cheers from the old libary, we where in the Martin Carthy guitar workshop, then we went into the stalls hall and had some very nice ale of note, people were coming in all buzzed upwith smiley faces so they must have loved it.

Did'nt anyone else go to Oxford then? And since I missed out on seeing the second best group at the festival Bellowhead (next to "On English Ground") does anyone know where either are playing again soon?

I saw Eliza at Oxford. She was hanging around outside the Town Hall Sunday morning. Sadly, I didn't get to see her perform, but then I didn't get to see much anyway (Oxford Village Band, Eliie Skinner, GMW, Steindor Andersen) because of committments. My impression is that the punters had a great time.

If you haven't done so already, the organisers would like any comments about the festival left via their web site and forum.

Regards

Pete

Cheers Pete. Yep my nephew and I had a brill time. We stayed at The Youth Hostel which is about 10 mins walk away from most of the action. It took us about two hours to sort out which way to go and to find things. We went to The Folk Club, on Friday night which was great and packed, then watched the morris stuff on Sat morning, went to see "On English Ground" that was my favorite and went to a couple of workshops. The only thing we could not find on Saturday night was a pub session, which was a shame. Still yummy ale everywhere we went, so that was alright. Sunday more morris then a Martin Carthy workshop followed by The New Roots concert. GREAT.

Well I'm glad you had a good time. I was at the FC on Friday, did a floor spot with my mate Ed - Whiskey in the Jar and a couple of tunes. There were three venues for pub sessions, one was just across the road (The Old Tom) another just off the Cornmarket (Far from the Madding Crowd) and another at the famed Half Moon, about 15 mins walk down in St Clements - this one can get packed and go on for a very long time! Greene King dominates the pubs in Oxford, but it ain't a bad pint, better than before (Morrels and Morland), they frequently have guest ales but there are a few other pubs with interesting beer too. The morris and parade was jolly good fun and I managed in a slack moment to see a bit of OEG - I'll try to catch the whole show in July. I missed Martin because I had duties elsewhere but I'm going to his workshop in June in Lewes. Ellie was good wasn't she and GMW too. If you hung around after, you would have seen yours truly perform as part of Spire. I wanted to see Rachel Unthank, missed her on Sat and Sun! But in the end I managed to wind down with a bit of Andrew Cronshaw and Steindor Andersen in the marvellous Holywell Music Room.

Great festival feeling. The team are going to be able to chill out at the Cornbury festival in July, we have been given a stage on Sunday to put on an OFF special - details on the web site. Maybe we'll cross paths there, if not, here's to 2007!

Peter I am sure we will meet sometime this year. I remember the name but not the face at the moment, so if you know me say hello.

Went back to Oxford on Sunday night to see Gary Numan. A bit different from the last time I went to Oxford, but "BRILLIANT" as they say as well.
