It appeared on a vinyl album by Roy Bailey, called ". . . . freedom peacefully", issued on the Fuse Records label, CF 386, in 1985.

The song on that is credited as "New Year's Eve", and in insert booklet gives the Si Kahn lyrics to it, as posted, published by Cut Cane Associates, 817 Carolina Street, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, 27870, USA, so you could probably get a paper copy of the music from there as well.

I've since seen it listed as a track on a Roy Bailey compilation CD - fairly recently, at that.

Shoh slaynt,

Bobby Bob, who can post to a thread but can't seem to start one off about a song in French, probably from Upper Brittany - more, if possible, anon.

Baz, all I could do is send you a tape if you tell me where. Or else I'll find out which CD it is from. I know I bought it a year or two (or three?) ago, so it should be still available. - Susanne

This song is from a Roy Bailey tape
and I'm looking for the tune if anyone can help

SONG OF THE EXILE
NEW YEAR'S EVE
(Si Kahn)
As recorded by Roy Bailey on "Freedom Peacefully" (1985)

I have seen you tossing restless between midnight and day
Paying back the debts of many years
Or staring out the window 'til the mist has burned away
And waiting for the sun to dry your tears
I've seen you young; I've seen you old; I've seen you lost and found.
I've seen you sit and cry without a sound.

And I've seen you in the lamp-light with the hard lines in your face
And the shadows of your fears upon the wall.
But crying is no weakness and to lose is no disgrace,
You see we're not so different after all.
But can't you tell by the ringing bell, the old year's moving on
I'd like to say one thing before it's gone.

May what-ever house you live in have flowers by the door
And children in the bed to keep you warm.
May the people there accept you for what you really are
And help you find some shelter in the storm.
And the morning rain to ease the pain that comes from being free.
May the new year bring you freedom peacefully.

And the morning rain to ease the pain that comes from being free.
May the new year bring you freedom peacefully.

Regards Baz
