Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Date: 12 Apr 06 - 11:14 AM Don't seem right to have a minority smoking allowance. I would have thought it would have been non smoking, seen as the vast majority don't smoke. |
Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Date: 12 Apr 06 - 11:31 AM Incidentally Captain Swing, I hope you use Graham Moore's song that he wrote called "Captain Swing" as your opening number. Graham Moore If you go to that website and then click on download link, you will be able click on the drop down icon and select Captain swing and listen to it. |
Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: GUEST,Captain Swing Date: 12 Apr 06 - 03:42 PM Thanks for that, Villan. Sounds like a good song. In my previous folk incarnation I would have snapped it up but I'm changing style a little at the moment. On the smoking issue - there are so few smokers that it isn't a problem and the law will sort it out fairly soon anyway ...... saves having a witch hunt. |
Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Date: 12 Apr 06 - 03:53 PM Don't geta witch hunt at my club. banned smoking 2 years ago. Never regretted it :-) |
Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: GUEST,Captain Swing Date: 12 Apr 06 - 03:57 PM There's a difference between an open mic and a folk club though |
Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Date: 12 Apr 06 - 04:05 PM Not when it comes to the majority of the people having to put up with passive smoking from the minority! |
Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: GUEST Date: 12 Apr 06 - 04:17 PM We are by nature not a club. We play in a room in a pub which we hope will attract passing trade as would a normal pub gig. We don't charge on the door, there is no gatekeeper. From this point of view it seems to me that to ban smoking or not would be a decision for the pub management as the room is open to anyone who wants to come in. |
Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Date: 12 Apr 06 - 04:25 PM OK I will come along and enjoy the music when its smoke free. Having had cancer caused by smoking. |
Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: GUEST,Captain Swing Date: 12 Apr 06 - 04:30 PM We'll look forward to seeing you. As it happens, I'm a life-long non-smoker. |
Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Date: 12 Apr 06 - 04:36 PM As I said, I will when smoking is banned :-) |

Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Rasener Date: 16 Apr 06 - 12:17 PM Bad luck Swordy, we even had the ref on our side :-) I will be very surprised if you escape this season. Amazing when you think of the senior players you have. |
Subject: RE: 'The Bash' , Cottingham, Open Mic From: Northerner Date: 16 Apr 06 - 12:27 PM I've just returned from Edinburgh where the Scottish laws on smoking are in force. Now there are sad little huddles of people on the streets outside the pubs, all smoking away furiously. Personally I think these laws are a good thing. I had to give up folk singing for a very long time when the cigarette smoke hurt my eyes too much. I'm a lifetime non-smoker. |
