true enough, but I'd hate to cut myself off from enjoyment of his writings because of it. Think of Yeats,Wodehouse,Shaw, HG Wells, Ewan McColl. All with some pretty horrible political skeletons in their closets, but all worth a bit of attention in spite of it.

Political Compass (www.politicalcompass.org) have a very informative quiz on this kind of disparity.
They also have an analysis of the political positions of famous composers.
I know there has been a thread here before on this subject (now closed) nevertheless it's well worth a visit.

-6.38, -4.77, so I'm on a similar vector but a little inboard of you two. But I could have done with a click between "agree" and "disagree" for some questions. And others I thought were phrased rather strangely, as if to force an answer- there were several that asked "is" questions, where to answer is to state about matters of fact, rather than "ought" questions.

I notice from elsewhere on the site that the only UK party in the same quadrant is the Green Party.

I came in as:

Economic Left/Right: -7.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.10

Very much the same as John -I'm evidently a bit further left, and a shade less libertarian.

I kept on wanting to disagree with the question, as having excluded my view by the way it was phrased.

I suspect Chesterton would have had similar problems - for example coming up against a question like "Our race has many superior qualities, compared with other races" he'd have been likely to object that it needed to be accompanied by one saying "Other races have many superior qualities, compared with our race", with the option of agreeing with both of them.
