Subject: Lyr Req: something with shirt in title From: Gene Date: 11 Apr 06 - 10:35 PM got this lyrics request today from a net pal...thought i would pass it on and try to stir some old WWVA memories. ---an old tune that keeps running through my head. It is one of them comedy songs from the 40's or early 50's and I have no idea who sang it. I don't even know the real name of it. The song went "shirts, shirts, all kinds of shirts, shirts you can't see for the dirt on the shirts". Have you ever heard this one? I used to hear it on WWVA Wheeling, WV, 1170 on your dial. It may have been the clown Crazy Elmer who sang it but I have no idea. DB |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: something with shirt in title From: Peace Date: 12 Apr 06 - 10:36 AM 'Talking of kid's shows, there've been several mentions of Jim Ruddle, as Zeta. Also, some remembered the bad guy on the show, Karzov. Well, now it can be told. I was that villain. Yes I, fresh from playing the dramatic role of boy-hero, Elmer the Clown, on the "Uncle Hiram" show on KVOO-TV. I moved to KOTV and was relegated to Zeta's arch enemy. (or was it, arch enema?) I have it on good authority that Jim still has his Zeta suit, and had been known to wear it to church. Uncle Hiram had been in show biz since Moby Dick was a sardine. He had worked Vaudeville, "the Nat'l Barn Dance" from Chicago and recorded comedy songs, as part of "Hank and Hiram".' from here. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: another oldie From: Gene Date: 13 Apr 06 - 01:26 AM and one i have been searching for - for over 55 years... it is probably a 20/30/40s tune these are exact lyrics...and i only recall these 2 lines i know the tune quite well but my CRS Brain won't let me recall any other lyrics... a woman can't jump over a fence like a man 'cause she just ain't built that way and she can't [*strike a match in the dark like a man] 'cause she just ain't built that way. *an obvious reference to a man striking a match on the hindmost or side part of his pants leg |
