I spoke to San and Ed about a year ago at the time of Geoff Woods funeral, they are both back up in the North East now I believe, Ed is involved with the folk scene up there. When they were running Folk at The Grove in Leeds a few years ago we had many many wonderful evenings, most were very well attended, and Folk Leads was an idea which sprang from the success of the club. Yes it was an excellent magazine, very readable and interesting, and I think it could well have had great potential. People move on though im afraid and so with Sam and Ed went a very good idea.

I agree that Sam and Ed produced a very different and outstanding Folk Magazine ....FOLK LEADS ! It covered so many interesting and varied aspects of Folk.....tunes, songs, customs, traditions , clubs, history and people. They sometimes attended our sessions here in Wakefield....at Fernandes and the Bull And Fairhouse and these two venues featured in a lovely article in the magazine . They also had strong associations with the Grove Folk Club in Leeds. I believe that Sam and Ed have moved away from West Yorkshire and I think that the final publication of this excellent magazine coincided with the move. Perhaps they may read these posts and be persuaded to start up the publication once more....but the superb quality would demand so much of their time . They are always welcome in this part of Yorkshire and I do hope they will stay in touch .

FOLK LEADS began life as a club magazine, but quickly developed into a magazine for all. There are so many people who have a passionate interest in what they do. We want to give such people the opportunity to share their ideas with others.

We are interested in the background to the songs,the history of the times, where the songs come from and why people have a passion for singing them. We use Sibelius for the music notation.

Customs likewise interest us, and this has moved on to including articles on musical instruments, tunes, art and crafts, folk dance, all laced with a spice of controversy.
The online version has been designed, and will be launched in a very few weeks.

We have now had our first positive enquiry from the US, and are sorting out how to send, including back numbers, how to pay, and how to subscribe. So we are gearing up for anyone else not lucky enough to have the delights of Royal Mail who wants to order from abroad.

Have only seen the first 3 issues so far. Full of articles I want to read rather than the concentration on the Superstar element of folk music.

I've just received my copy of Issue 4 and it's brilliant! Articles range from the Blantire explosion to knitting! If you have any interest in folk traditions and customs, you'll find something in it to interest you. A special mention must be made for the pictures & illustrations. They illumimate the text in a rare and sympathetic manner. Sam & Ed have created a truly special here. At two quid, it's a real bargain.

I haven't seen Issue #4 yet (but my cheque is in the post!), but if previous issues are anything to go by it will be a treat. Congratulations to Sam for all his hard labour.

The title is a pun on Leeds where the magazine is produced, but it is worth reading wherever you are in the world.

The latest issue is bigger and better than ever, in fact it's bigger than the first two put together. Articles range from the straight historical to the quite quirky, all singing, all dancing, all instrumental, and they are starting to come in from all parts of the country. There's a great new magazine appeared all about traditions and songs. It is full of background material and pictures, even some music. Hopefully it is coming to a folk festival some where near you!! Issue number four is out now. Some folk clubs appear to have copies. Has anyone else come across it? I believe it can bo ordered off the web..but from where??
