Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Janie Date: 13 Apr 06 - 02:39 PM I get a bottom bunk! (that way my snores won't float out over and down onto everyone else.) They are heavy-I'm sure they sink! Janie |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Bill D Date: 13 Apr 06 - 03:39 PM if they are THAT heavy, maybe you shouldn't be near the ceiling, where they will bounce and rebound..*grin* |

Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Midchuck Date: 13 Apr 06 - 04:14 PM Going to go head-to-head with NOMAD, huh? Seems like some people might be upset at having to choose. Getaway's too far for us during the school year, anyway, but... Peter |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: artbrooks Date: 13 Apr 06 - 04:19 PM It is still not on the FSGW website. Info other than dates, such as cost and registration information would be helpful. |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: MMario Date: 13 Apr 06 - 04:24 PM Art - I would suspect it will run about the same as the last few years - for the full shot, non-member; all nights and meals roughly 175 US. - give or take a couple bucks. Registration usually starts about september - it might run a little later this year since the getaway is later. They still have a summer festival to get through - and their monthly stuff. |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Bill D Date: 13 Apr 06 - 04:24 PM *sigh*...we tried. Getting ANY camp we can afford is always a problem...and decent camps are scheduled years in advance. Must be nice...for the camp. (We could have it in Prince Georges County Forest, like we did when we were...ummm...younger...with NO heat, barely tolerable bathrooms and a couple of gang showers and a limit of about 150 registrants...and having to so kitchen work for 2 hours and plan all our own meals. Maybe in the next couple of years we'll get back to a date we want) |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: SINSULL Date: 13 Apr 06 - 06:20 PM Janie, I don't snore so we can share a room - lower bunk here too. I could get into the top one but it's unlikely I will be able to get out. |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 13 Apr 06 - 06:24 PM Yo, Bill -- that was Prince WILLIAM Forest Park. I'd think you'd remember that -- or maybe your name is really George? :<) And aside from all the other problems with PWFP, They wouldn't confirm reservations till only about 2-3 months beforehand. Makes it hard to plan. And the "bathrooms" were totally INtolerable, IMHO. We'll keep trying for an October date at West River, and maybe eventually we'll get it. MMario's right -- registration information will be along in the summer. The date's the important thing right now. Nancy |

Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: katlaughing Date: 13 Apr 06 - 06:55 PM Are there rooms for old married folks to share? If so and they are bunks, Rog will have to go up top! |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Bill D Date: 13 Apr 06 - 07:14 PM arrrrggghhhh...Nancy! *beating my elderly brain cell to shake the dust off it*...yes..Prince William! (I wondered why I has trouble making that phrase sound right!) Most of the rooms are just bunks...usually 2 bunks....we are not sure how it will work. If we don't fill the place, we 'might' be able to use a lot of rooms, and allow more folks to have lowers...but I don't have the floor plans and of course, we have no head count yet.. |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Catherine Jayne Date: 13 Apr 06 - 07:22 PM Micca and I have had our flights booked for a month now!! We are definitely coming again this year!!! |

Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: artbrooks Date: 13 Apr 06 - 07:36 PM Most of the rooms are just bunks...usually 2 bunks Is that "2 bunks" as in one upper and one lower, or two sets? If the latter, I guess we need roomies! |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Genie Date: 13 Apr 06 - 10:26 PM Aw, rats! I have accumulated enough FF miles to pay for my airfare, and I had made a space for the gathering in October, thinking it would be roughly at the same time of year. Since it's in early Nov., and I've already got several bookings in San Diego for that trip, I won't be able to make it unless (doubtful) I can manage to reschedule those. I'm really disappointed. I was so looking forward to finally going to the Gathering. I guess you guys are gonna have to have an extra good time to make up for that. Genie BTW, what is the weather like in that neck of the woods in early November? |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Alba Date: 13 Apr 06 - 10:41 PM Yahoooooooooo! So for this first timer...whats the story Morning Glories. Do I share a room or do you stick me at the back of the place with a tent and a torch? (no wise cracks ok..lol) Love Jude ps: I don't snore but I do get up very early even when I have been up very late and....... I am cheery in the morning...groan!!! |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 13 Apr 06 - 10:49 PM Is it really the same weekend as NOMAD? I surely hope not. Ruth and I (and perhaps the rest of the Gospel Messengers) are seriously considering coming down but if it's the same weekend as NOMAD we would have to reconsider. NOMAD is very special to us, and I can almost see it out my living room window. It definitely is closer... Anybody know for sure when NOMAD is? I'll have to check my literature.. Jerry |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Bobert Date: 13 Apr 06 - 10:54 PM Warm???? What's that??? |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Bill D Date: 13 Apr 06 - 10:58 PM I should have said two SETS of bunks in most rooms..(that I saw)...There are small cabins, and also rooms in a main, larger building. I can't remember if there were some dorm style rooms...no doubt Charley Baum will pop by one day soon and clarify a lot of it. The weather in early Nov. can be anything from 75 F in the daytime to snow. (both are unlikely)..We have often had a warm spell after the first chilly snap, and not had any serious cold until Jan...but this is weather! We should not be surprised to have chilly nights...but we have had those in Oct., which is one reason thewre were so many votes for an all-weather, heated camp. |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: dick greenhaus Date: 13 Apr 06 - 11:52 PM Jerry- Sadly, NOMAD is the same wekend. And so, regretfully, CAMSCO won't be at NOMAD this year. |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 14 Apr 06 - 06:07 AM I didn't make it last year (for obvious reasons). But, in the words of The Great Sage, "This time for sure! Presto!". Stephen Lee |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: MMario Date: 14 Apr 06 - 08:43 AM Getaway weekend has become a high point of my year - and the Welcome and work the FSGW folk put into this weekend are phenomanal. I almost signed up and became a member last year - then decided I almost prefferred to pay the higher fee - since I really can't participate the other 361 days a year - and don't want it to look like I'm just registering to get a price cut. |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Nancy King Date: 14 Apr 06 - 11:04 AM We do apologize to those for whom the conflict with NOMAD is a problem. We would love to have avoided such conflicts, but it just wasn't possible. Our choices were to stay at Ramblewood (and none of us wanted that) or go for the earliest date West River had available. So there it is. We're looking forward to seeing as many of you as can possibly make it! Nancy |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Nancy King Date: 14 Apr 06 - 11:38 AM AND thanks for the kind words, MMario! We do work hard to make it a special occasion, and it's gratifying to know other folks enjoy it as much as we (the FSGW) do! |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Janie Date: 14 Apr 06 - 05:28 PM I know it is way too early to line up help, but I definitely will volunteer to help again this year, and I'm sure many other 'Catters who can't help with the main work of organizing will also want to do what they can at the event itself. Be sure someone from FSGW starts a thread for volunteering when the time comes to start that kind of planning! Janie |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: GUEST,Dani Date: 14 Apr 06 - 08:28 PM I will take 2# of ginger, and can't wait to see you all. I've got my earplugs ready. Janie, you know it's interesting... I never really realized you snored at the Getaway..... Dani |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 14 Apr 06 - 08:33 PM Wouldnchaknow. I finally get geared up to go to the Getaway this year and it's the same weekend as NOMAD. I'm afraid I'm going to pass on the Getaway. Not that NOMAD would notice if I wasn't there, but I would. Guess I'll just have to catch you D.C. area folks some other time... sooner rather than later, hopefully. Jerry |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Tinker Date: 14 Apr 06 - 09:17 PM Yes !!!! It's on the calendar and it's official. Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: GUEST,Dani Date: 15 Apr 06 - 08:27 AM I don't need MUCH sleep, but there has to be SOME segue between spitting out my whiskey while Geoff the Duck plays Duelling Banjos on the kazoo, and drinking coffee to fortify myself for the best gospel sing on the East Coast. What's a NOMAD? Dani |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 15 Apr 06 - 09:13 AM NOMAD is the North American Music And Dance Festival, Dani. It's held in Connecticut... most recently in New Haven. It is usually a couple weeks one side of the Getaway. I've done a gospel workshop there for many years, and it's a wonderful festival. Hopefully next year they won't be on the same weekend so I can come down to the Getaway... maybe get the Gospel Messengers to come along, too. There's always a good contingent of D.C.ers that come to NOMAD, so we'll miss them, too.. Jerry |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: Bill D Date: 15 Apr 06 - 10:00 AM I hear matter transmitters are still in 0.14 BETA, so I guess we have to just grit our teeth and choose this year...*grump* |
Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: KathWestra Date: 15 Apr 06 - 12:12 PM Oops. No Getaway for me this year unless they get that cloning thing figured out between now and November. Like Jerry, I've sung at NOMAD every year for many (15? more?) years, traveling from D.C. for many of them, and now from Maine. It wouldn't be fall for me without participating in that wonderful Connecticut festival. One of my few opportunities every year to see (and hear) Jerry & Ruth & the Messengers, the Patons, the Beans, the 'chucks, bbc, and lots of other folks of whom I'm very fond. |

Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: bbc Date: 15 Apr 06 - 07:46 PM I consider the Get-Away each year, but NOMAD is much closer for me &, as others have mentioned, I cherish the folks I only see once or twice a year. So, if there's a conflict, I need to choose NOMAD. Still, I'll miss those we lose to the Get-Away. best, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Dates for Getaway this year? - Nov 3-5, 2006 From: SINSULL Date: 15 Apr 06 - 10:02 PM Actually, Leo. Jacqui and I discussed a "workshop" dealing with who can give the worst gift. You bring something horrible and thru a lottery system, you win a gift from another participant. What you don't want can always go into the silent auction - one man's treasure is another man's trash. By the way, we do have a gift for you to be delivered at NEFFA. heh heh |
