Just a heads-up that the digital Beeb are re-running "The Lost Highway" series, on successive Friday nights (followed by some Loretta Lynn & then Marvin Gaye). Blurb sez:

9.00pm             Lost Highway: The Story of Country Music Documentary exploring the roots of country music, revitalised by the popular bluegrass soundtrack to Hollywood film O Brother, Where Art Thou? The opening programme explains how the genre was reinvented for a contemporary audience, featuring reconstructions of early material and specially shot performances by leading artists including Emmylou Harris. With contributions from Willie Nelson, Gillian Welch, Ralph Stanley and Kris Kristofferson (Stereo)
10.00pm         Sing Country: Loretta Lynn Special
10.30pm         Originals Profiling the life and work of inspirational musician Marvin Gaye

No it's TV, and so that's another no. It seems that the BBC can't be arsed to put out a DVD either.

Thanks, Les. I enjoyed the Radio Ballads so much that I'm always on the lookout now for good BBC documentaries. They are great to replay on long drives. I'll be sorry to miss this batch.

BBC 4 (UK TV Digital) has been putting on the best music (IMO) in years. The Ralph Stanley concert last week was a joy.

It's true what the large illegitimate one says. We had a great night of American music with a Ralph Stanley concert, Johnnie Cash and Hank Williams documentaries, culminating with the Down from the Mountain film.

Isn't there a BBC America thing on cable TV over there? Perhaps if you all ask nicely, they'll put some of these things on, together with some of the British folk music things.

We only get these things with a digital tuner, but I've got one of those clever boxes with two tuners and a hard drive (Fusion). you can pick out all the stuff you want from an two week on-screen guide.
