From: Rockhen Date: 26 Apr 06 - 06:50 PM No Problemo...would be interested to hear if you come to any conclusions or sort any new system out for advertising music up there as a mate has a holiday cottage that we hope to borrow again before too long! It would be nice to know of things on before deciding whether to insist that my accordion really is an essential item to take up space in the boot...(Ok ok I deserve the endless accordion jokes now, LOL!) |
Subject: RE: Any Live music near Bowness on Wind'mer? From: greg stephens Date: 26 Apr 06 - 06:44 PM Thanks for the info, Rockhen. it will be very useful The boom in interest in traditional music in the northwest is very gratifying. There is even Cumbrian music in the fRoots playlist this month(as I hope you've all noticed!). |
Subject: RE: Any Live music near Bowness on Wind'mer? From: Rockhen Date: 26 Apr 06 - 06:38 PM Hi Greg. We went into the Tourist Information Office in Bowness and they photocopied the What's On Gig guide from the local paper for us. They also showed us where the Lamplighter's Bar (which was advertising a folk night) was on a map of the town. They were helpful but they didn't seem to know anything about any of the live music that was on locally, more than it said in the advert. We looked in the yellow pages and got the number of the said bar, who then gave us a contact number for the person who was 'in charge' of the folk night. PM me if you want any more info. Most people seemed helpful but we felt we had had to follow quite a series of steps just to find out where and when live music was happening. Less persistant music addicts would have probably given up and watched the tv! |

Subject: RE: Any Live music near Bowness on Wind'mer? From: greg stephens Date: 26 Apr 06 - 03:05 AM Rockhen: could you tell me what happened when you made an enquiry to a tourist place? I am extremely keen to know, as I am going to have a meeting with tourist people in Cumbria in a couple of weeks time to discuss the whole connection of tourism and traditional music. |

Subject: RE: Any Live music near Bowness on Wind'mer? From: Rockhen Date: 22 Apr 06 - 08:45 PM Well it was me, actually, who wanted to find where 'the music' was happening...didn't want to put anyone off! Found a folk session in the Lamplighter bar in the Oakthorpe Hotel on Windermere...thanks Norman, Rachel and friends! Sorry, wasn't sure of anyone else's name! I didn't know much not being a trad folkie but was nice to hear some live music and attempt an odd note or two to jam along even though I wasn't very successful! Thanks to those who posted on here...apparently there is a session night goes on in a pub in Kendal, too, or was it Keswick...oops!...not sure, but think it was Thursdays. But....am home now so bit late for us...maybe next time! |

Subject: RE: Any Live music near Bowness on Wind'mer? From: GUEST,Dave (Bridge) Date: 15 Apr 06 - 06:14 AM The Lake District has long been a folk desert. Although I have heard that something happens in a pub in Ambleside on a Saturday night with floor singers. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the pub but will try to find out. |

Subject: RE: Any Live music near Bowness on Wind'mer? From: GUEST Date: 15 Apr 06 - 05:42 AM is the lake district full of holiday homes? It seems that there are more sessions in the city of york than there are in cumbria, maybe the net hasn't reached them yet! |

Subject: Any live music near Bowness on Wind'mer? From: Rockhen Date: 14 Apr 06 - 07:30 PM Hi, have got some mates who are into acoustic/live music who will be in Bowness on Windermere from Monday 18th April for a few days...I suggested I started a thread on here, for them, to ask if anyone knows of any acoustic-y live music clubs or bands playing in this area in the Lake District over the next week...well, after the long woffle...does anyone know of any such gigs? Maybe one that an accordion player could jam along at, possibly?! They would be very quiet, honest! |
