Subject: String Tablature etc in HARMONY From: pavane Date: 21 Apr 06 - 03:22 AM I am finalising the new version (3.4.2)of my program HARMONY, and would like to check if I am providing what is needed. (By the way, current version 3.4.1 tablature is wrong!) Please let me know if I have missed anything important for tablature In the new version a) You can specify instruments with up to 12 strings (if you have that many fingers!), and the also define the tuning of each string. Maybe I can add something that denotes selected tunes as fixed, not fretted. b) You can save the details of each instrument/tuning. c) When an instrument is applied to a tune, its name will be saved with the tune. The instrument name and tuning are shown on the tablature. d) You can show tablature for any combination of voices, from 1 to ALL e) Slurs (Hammers, slides), ties, note tails and lyrics are not yet shown, but are visible on the score above the tab. f) When HARMONY generates chords for a stringed instrument, the notes are chosen so that only one is placed on each string (Of course) That was a bit tricky. You can't use a chord directory if custom tunings are in use! g) You can manually override the chosen string, and move the note to a different string. This information will be saved with the tune. Another major change is that when a bar (Measure) line is added to one voice, all other voices are brought into line automatically. I can't think of any reason why the bar structure should differ between voices. Inserted bars are now filled with rests to the current size. |

Subject: RE: String Tablature etc in HARMONY From: pavane Date: 21 Apr 06 - 09:03 AM I will have to check! It will not generate any automatically, but there may be some in imported tune files, or after editing. Thanks for that hint |

Subject: RE: String Tablature etc in HARMONY From: Kaleea Date: 21 Apr 06 - 12:48 PM I know it's asking for a whole new concept, but . . . Could you have "tab" for Autoharp? Not actual tab, but rather specific symbols under (or over) the notes such as: arrows pointing up or down, P for pinch, PL for pluck, T for thumb, M for middle finger (which is mainly used for the melody notes), wiggly & straight line with arrow pointing up or down across staff next to a note or chord for slow strum across strings. That sort of stuff? I don't find alot of this for Classical Guitar tab, either. Every couple of years I check out the programs online, & I still have not found any program (at any price-although I don't have bigtime $$) which has all the things I need. Therefore, I still find myself writing most tunes out for students w paper & pen. I'd really love to see one of the lesser expensive programs work so well for "Traditional Instruments" that it will shoot the big guys out of the pond. |
Subject: RE: String Tablature etc in HARMONY From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 22 Apr 06 - 08:01 AM "Inserted bars are now filled with rests to the current size. " This seems confusing to someone with formal music training - will this not disrupt the bar count between different instruments (which would mean that some instruments phrases would be pushed out of the correct 'entrance point', etc), or am I getting something wrong here? Or does it mean that the total bar count for all instruments is shifted, thus breaking the original timing run of the piece? |
