Subject: RE: Northwest Folklife Festival: Who's going From: MAG Date: 24 Apr 06 - 10:55 AM I'm in a rather funky little band which will be playing the dance Sunday at 12:00. We will be stiff from nerves. I better make a reservation. Silly me. I'll try to catch your gig on Saturday, Chanteyranger. What time? Genie, where can we hook up? MAG |

Subject: RE: Northwest Folklife Festival: Who's going From: johnross Date: 24 Apr 06 - 05:36 PM I will be there, as usual. In addition to the usual band scrambles, I'm running a singaround session on Monday called "Songs We Sang at Camp." I'm hoping that we will get people singing and sharing camp songs they haven't thought about in many years, since their own days at camp (could be scout camp, wilderness camp...even cadence counting songs from boot camp!). Mudcatters who have camp songs to share are more than welcome. |

Subject: RE: Northwest Folklife Festival: Who's going From: Peter Kasin Date: 08 May 06 - 03:16 PM Radriano and I will be on the Northwest Court stage from 2:28-2:48. johnross, your singaround reminds me of a camp song that was sung in the dining hall at breakfast; "Peace, I ask of thee, o river." The camp was run by a Quaker couple, and the memory of singing that (but not all the lyrics) has stuck with me since 1963. Damn, we fly home on Monday, so will have to miss it. Don't miss Hanneke Cassel, a great young fiddler who will be performing at the fest on Sunday. |

Subject: RE: Northwest Folklife Festival: Who's going From: katlaughing Date: 12 May 06 - 03:26 PM Just wondering if any of you Northwest folk know this young man and his music? I haven't heard him play, but I found the article inspiring. Have fun at your Fest! |

Subject: RE: Northwest Folklife Festival: Who's going From: Stilly River Sage Date: 13 May 06 - 11:12 AM This morning I was looking for a song Dad (John Dwyer) used to sing and came across a bunch he collected way back when. This is the transcript of a truly Northwest song from a newspaper advertisment clipping I found in a loose leaf binder. The First Eight Days of a Puget Sound Christmas lyrics by Ivar Haglund (To the tune of "The 12 Days of Christmas") On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me, a seagull in a fir tree. One the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me, two dozen oysters and a seagull in a fir tree. On the third day of Christmas my true love sent to me, three cracked crabs, two dozen oysters, and a seagull in a fir tree. On the fourth day of Christmas my true love sent to me, four silver salmon, three cracked crabs, two dozen oysters, and a seagull in a fir tree. On the fifth day of Christmas my true love sent to me, five red snappers, four silver salmon, three cracked crabs, two dozen oysters, and a seagull in a fir tree. On the sixth day of Christmas my true love sent to me, six sacks of clams, five red snappers, four silver salmon, three cracked crabs, two dozen oysters, and a seagull in a fir tree. On the seventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me, seven shiny smelt, six sacks of clams, five red snappers, four silver salmon, three cracked crabs, two dozen oysters, and a seagull in a fir tree. On the eighth day of Christmas my true love sent to me, a totem pole from a cedar tree, seven shiny smelt, six sacks of clams, five red snappers, four silver salmon, three cracked crabs, two dozen oysters, and a seagull in a fir tree. Once again we at Ivar's have exercised our franchise on Christmas Day closing. As usual, I was soundly defeated. The Vote: In favor of closing: 99 Undecided, but leaning slightly, (Ivar's Uncle Thorvaald) 1 Against closing (Ivar) 1 Total 101 Merry Christmas and Keep Clam, Ivar's Acres of Clams Ivar's on Broadway The Captain's Table |

Subject: RE: Northwest Folklife Festival WA: Who's going From: Genie Date: 27 May 06 - 09:45 AM MAG, I'm here in Seattle and heading over to the Festival shortly. I PM'd you my cell phone # in case you want to meet up sometime today. I plan to do one band scramble and then see how my wonky left pinkie is holding up. It's behaving very badly, so I may not do much playing, but I will probably hang out at Bluegrass Hill a lot if/when it's not raining. There and in the participants' lounge. Look forward to the NW Songs Panel and your funky little band, MAG. I'm hanging pretty loose (a'right, no cracks about age, fo'ks!) so I may be able to check out several Mudcatters' gigs. There's going to be a Song Circle on Sunday night away from the Seattle Center. If anyone is interested in location, PM me. Genie |

It's always wild but fun. Maybe I'll see you 'Catters around! ;) Cheers, Molly |

Subject: RE: Northwest Folklife Festival WA: Who's going From: Deckman Date: 27 May 06 - 01:33 PM I had serious doubts that I was going to be able to make, but now I know for sure that I will be there for the Sunday evening (6:30) workshop/discussion. Hope to see any catters there. CHEERS, Bob(deckman)Nelson |
