On the 4/22 broadcast of "A Praire Home Companion," Jearlyn Steele sang a song called "Down on the Riverbend" that I cannot find more information about. I'm wondering who wrote it. Also, she indicated a good friend of hers had recorded it but didn't say who. Los Lobos has recorded a song with the same or a similar name, but I doubt it is the same (and can't find lyrics for their song to confirm anyway.)

The chorus is:

Down on the Riverbend
Down on the Riverbend
Down on the Riverbend
I asked my lover to take (hold) my hand

Verses include something about a church on the hill, a red-tailed hawk in the sky, a train....

The song is by Los Lobos... I have it on CD but don't have the time to transcribe the lyrics right now. It's a fine song... Los Lobos is one of my favorite groups..

I've checked both the Prairie Home Companion site and Allmusic.com, and this is the song that Jearlyn Steele sang, and that Los Lobos recorded.
