Hello all.

Bit of a long shot. Am trying to track down a musician from whom I purchased a CD about five years ago on the streets of Exeter. He played a traditional stringed instrument.

I now only have the CD, by "Mr Smythe" called "Make Do & Mend". It is purely instrumental.

The CD states it was produced by Slappedtogether Productions Ltd.

If this rings a bell with anyone, can you email me at alastair.christie@gmail.com

Many thanks, Alastair.

I bought this from him back in 2003 on the streets of canterbury. Been wondering the same thing all these years later.

I bought the Make do and Mend CD off of him in Exeter in the early 2000s. He was playing an electric mandolin and I thought it was pretty cool. I have it on iTunes now. Haven't heard anything about him since then. Looks like he just disappeared.

Here I am listening to ‘wood metal & flesh’, a CD I bought in Canterbury years ago having just parked & heard this amazing sound from round the corner. I assumed there must be a band playing, but no, just Mr Smyth playing a mandolin through an echoplex.
I was hoping to hear more, but after I bought the CD he said ‘wicked!’ And packed up.
Great to know there’s at least one more album of his out there...
I played the CD to my cousin, who said ‘nice, but you’ll never play it again’. Wrong, it’s a gem.

I've got a copy of this CD too... I think a friend of mine gave it to me maybe around 2000. It's now in my mp3 library. Something about it... comforting, energizing, healing...

Like everyone else in this thread I canr find anything more about the artist!

This link (https://www.discogs.com/Mr-Smythe-Make-do-Mend/release/11585136) has an email to contact from the back of the CD - has anyone tried contacting that email? May be dead by now.

The back lists an F. C. Smythe and a T. C. Smythe - it could be possible that TC is a member of the band Smythe and Taylor: http://www.smytheandtaylor.com/press.html. This TC Smythe does not have a British accent though, so, it could not be the same one.

If not, not sure. There's a few leads you could follow from that Discogs link but it'd take some time to find what you're looking for, I think
