Subject: Lyr Add: THIS IS IT (Livingston/David) From: Jim Dixon Date: 03 Dec 10 - 02:11 PM There are several things I want to know about Bugs Bunny's music. We might as well start with the theme song of "The Bugs Bunny Show," which began in 1960. Lyrics are below. However, I'm almost certain that the song is older than that. I can picture Judy Garland and Gene Kelly (or someone of that ilk) doing it on the Ed Sullivan Show (or some show like that) in the 1950s. I know Jerry Livingston and Mack David each worked separately on several Broadway musical plays and revues before 1960. I know of only one that they worked on together: "Bright Lights of 1944," which came out in '43 and closed after 4 performances. I have not been able to find a list of songs from that show. Is it possible that Livingston & David wrote THIS IS IT for "Bright Lights" and later recycled it as the Bugs Bunny theme song? And that, in the meantime, various people did it as a cabaret number, or on TV variety shows? (I watched a lot of variety shows in the 50s and early 60s.) Just to complicate things, I know there are several other songs called THIS IS IT. Lyrics copied from International Lyrics Playground: THIS IS IT From the TV series "The Bugs Bunny Show" (1960) (Jerry Livingston / Mack David) Overture, curtains, lights. This is it, the night of nights! No more rehearsing and nursing a part. We know every part by heart. Overture, curtains, lights. This is it. You'll hit the heights, And oh what heights we'll hit! On with the show! This is it! Tonight what heights we'll hit! On with the show! This is it! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: Jim Carroll Date: 30 May 08 - 03:15 PM My friend, the late Tom Munnelly (folk song collector extraordinarairé) was constantly having the piss taken out of him for his taste in Wagner. Favourite was intoning 'Kill the wabbit' from the Bugs Bunny classic. Jim Carroll |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 10 May 06 - 08:38 PM George, if you do assemble, or come across a list (even partial) of the real tunes for each cartoon please give us a heads up! What would be even NICER, although I have no idea if the info is even accessible a thi sdistance in history, is also details of the MUSICIANS... :-) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: Kaleea Date: 10 May 06 - 02:28 PM A few years ago, I bought myself a video of the Classical (Music) Looneytunes cartoons. It is always fun, & the more you watch it with the kids, the better you know the lyrics. My "kids" (neices & nephews) now range in age from 19 months to 35 years--they all love it! So do I. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 10 May 06 - 12:23 PM That's what I have gathered. I sent the fellow a query about the possibility of gathering that information for his "lists" list. Maybe I'll hear back from him. Thanks! It is a delightful site though. Well worth putting into Mudcat Links! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 10 May 06 - 09:01 AM George - from my travels at that site, there mainly seemed to be a focus on Lyrics, not tunes. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: Cluin Date: 10 May 06 - 02:56 AM Ontario Tourism has recently adopted the slogan, "Ontario...Now Playing!" and are using the theme song from the Bugs Bunny Road Runner Show in their commercials.... Overture... Hit the lights!... This is it... the night of nights! What dildoes are sitting on the tourism board and okayed that one? It's embarassing. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: Brían Date: 09 May 06 - 11:06 PM I was pleasantly surprised to here a recording of Bud Powell and Charlie Parker performing the Looney Tunes theme, "This Is It" as a bebop tune under the name "Fine and Dandy". Brían |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 09 May 06 - 07:14 PM Thanks Gary. Didn't find it when I was searching the other day! Now I want to see if I can find out what tunes went with which cartoons, and whether they had lyrics. That is a great site, Gary. Very extensive. Will have to ask them about correlating the tunes with the cartoons as well, both classical and traditional and jazz stuff. Interesting ... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 07 May 06 - 11:21 AM This site looks like it has a fairly extensive set of lyrics. Including my favorite, "What's Opera, Doc?". It wasn't hard to find either. I just typed the phrase "bugs bunny lyrics" into Google and it was the first (of many) sites that popped up. -- Gary |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: Brían Date: 07 May 06 - 12:38 AM I think the song goes more like: Je suis travailler on the rail road, Tous le live long jour. Je suis travailler on the rail road, Just to passer le temps away. Can't you hear le capitain shouting, "Levez-vous de bonne heure!" Brían |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: Brían Date: 07 May 06 - 12:25 AM I recall my favorite from a Pepe Le Pew cartoon: JE SUIS TRAVAILLER ON THE RAILROAD Je suis travaller on the railroad Tous le live long jour Je suis travallier on the railroad Just to pass the time away Can't you here the capitain shouting Reveillez-vous de bon huere Pardon my French. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 06 May 06 - 08:41 PM Many such cartoons are now on DVD - sometimes even 100 on one pack of DVDs. Always loved the music style. I'm interested too. |
Subject: Lyr Req: Bugs Bunny From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 06 May 06 - 08:31 PM This question came up and I know that a lot of music from Bugs Bunny/Warner Bros. cartoons came out of the classical music genre. However, searching on the internet I was wondering if the songs that Bugs, or Elmer or any of the other characters sang in those old cartoons was around. Strangely enough, I haven't found them yet. Most of them were short, maybe one verse and a chorus. But, there were longer pieces. Remember the Hatfields and McCoys one? Bugs is singing nearly the whole time. Has anyone seen such a site with lyrics from those shows? |
