I appreciate your attention to detail. The 1904 book includes on the relevant page a nice illustration by Joseph Campbell's brother, John Patrick Campbell (1883-1962), a talented artist. Rather than bring up any of the old threads on Lagan Love, I thought I'd throw that in. This makes that verse much less Peeping Tom-ish. Shyly peeping in the doorway at one's love. Yeah, NOT peeking through the keyhole or anything. I have heard one version of this song with "lull's the eye to sleep." I don't know where this came from, but I like "eve" much better. |
