As I'm sure Shambles knows, there will be sessions and singarounds in the Conservative Club at Wimborne folk festival, 9-11 June. They don't seem to mind that the songs include Miner's Life and John Tams' Rolling Home.

New this year for Sidmouth is the Sidmouth Con club as a festival venue - I think it's been suggested as a possibility for the folk club, but I might be thinking of the War Memorial hall.

that particular government were a gang of really stupid liars. they had told everybody they had no plans to raise taxes before being elected. then when they got elected, the first thing they did was to say - well last week, we didn't have any plans to raise taxes but now we do.

they also had the good luck to be opposed by a leader of the opposition who couldn't string two words together, but expressed himself in sentences of about two hundred words.

Mellor was no worse than a hundred others - he just had the bad luck to have his little scandal at a time when everybody was particularly pigsick of politicians.

The Government referred to rather started the hanging on and the quick return to office of certain individuals, after being discredited, that we see now.

Before Cecil Parkinson's fall from office - victims of sex scandals tended to remain out in the cold. That Prime Minister was very quick to put him back into office. For reasons I think, not based on his abilities as a Minister.

Martin Carthy once told me he had a great admiration for Cecil Parkinson - I can't remember why.
