That's quite a list, Pauline! I would be interested in several of them, but want to give others a chance. (Don't want to seem greedy!):-) I'll check in, in a few days and see what's left. Thanks!

Here is my preliminary list. I haven't even gotten to the classical CDs yet.

Songs of Robert Burns Sung by Andy M. Stewart
A Celtic Hornpipe Collection
Memories of Scottish Weekend: Scottish Country Dance Music
Paul Simon: The Rhythm of the Saints
Mercedes Sosa: Sino
Bonnie Rideout: Scottish Fire
Niamh Parsons: Loosely Connected
Kathy Mattea: Good News
Eileen Ivers: Crossing the Bridge
Her Infinite Variety: Celtic Women in Music and Song
Bok, Muir, and Trickett: The First Fifteen Years, Vol. 1

As I look through my collection for things to sell, i keep finding things that I'd forgotten that I own, and, of course, I want tolisten to them again.

This is just the first installment of my list. To be continued...

mg, got the Bok CD yesterday and played some of it over the phone for Night Owl. She loves it and it will be going to her as soon as I get a box of other goodies packed up for her. Thanks!

I used to collect 'humour & comedy' LPs years ago, but am getting interested in starting to look around again for similar material.

Mo, I believe Max has asked Jeff to put the auction in a drop-down box.

I like this idea, too. May not have time to do much sorting before the Washington Folk Festival (June 3 & 4) though. We're pretty busy getting ready for it. But I've started thinking about what I could donate.

I'm beginning to wonder if banner adverts at the top of the page wouldn't be a better way of funding mudcat than the big adverts for the auction which, recently, have made the thread titles invisible.

I would like some rousing Irish, Newfoundland, Canadian whatever...oh, and anything from Hull, the music capital of the world...especially now what if people had 1000 CDs of their own music and weren't selling them too briskly...sell for $5, or more to cover postage, and send to Max...then we the beneficiaries could expound to the world how wonderful they are and everyone is happy. I would like a Big Mick Coughlin Band for $5 se vous ples but perhaps that is too much to dream.... (not that I am implying it is not a commercial success...far from it. )mg

mg, just have to say, Rog came home and we are just finishng up listening to the cd, right now and he is very impressed. Good stuff! Thanks, again.

I am also interested in classical, esp. voilin concertos and the like.:-)

Pauline, depending upon what they are, I'm definitely interested in classical CD's.

I'll try to make a list of my 'clutter' this weekend.

I like this idea! I pay $5 for used CD's at my local bookstore..... also a good cause, but I would be glad to find a reason to send some $$ to Max.

Dani

mg, just got the Vind du Nord! (Actually, the cover says "Le Vent du Nord" which Rog says it "The Wind of the North.") Thank you, so much. Rog and I both love this kind of music!! I AM going to go through my CDs this week. This was a great idea!

Thanks, again,

kat

Pauline..I would say if you want to get rid of them (my declutter hat) just get rid of them..that is if they are not particularly valuable or special to you. I would either just put them out here in this thread or on the auction, whichever is easiest for you and poof they are gone. Unused music is a serious form of clutter, but it can be wonderful for someone new... mg

OK, I see now why the auction isn't as useful, since someone has to "lose" in there. How about youse make a permathread for this (with Joe's OK of course). Take out offers as they are met with donations?

I've got a buch of CDs, tapes, and vinyl records. I've been trying to think of a constructive way to get rid of them. A lot of them are classical music. Would anyone be interested in thsse?

I can copy CDs or make CDs with a mix of music (like an anthology). I think this would be ethical, but I'm not sure about the legal issues. Any comments?

I had a thought whilst in that twilight of coming out of sleep this morning, mg. I belong to Freecylce, here. So..while we aren't offering them for free, I thought we could call it "CD Recycle."*smile* Or, maybe it should be "SpinAgain?"

LOL,

Ones I would like: De Dannan with the song about Queen of Sheba and/or Diamonds in the Bay.

Gordon Bok and Cindy Kallet.

Quartet with Sylvia Tyson.

Actually something by Ian Tyson.

Prison Gang songs.

Anything really pretty vocal or instrumental. I like pretty.

Anything with Laurie Andres or Wayne Quinn on accordian.

That's all for now. mg

OK it is yours. First come, first served. Offer what you think is fair based on your finances and condition of CD. I think I will also offer the Songs of the Northwest that Stewart put together..includes him, Linda Allen, Deckman, me, undoubtedly I am forgetting others from Mudcat. But someone else gets first chance at this one. Good condition I think. I am rough on CDs but this is pretty new.   mg

Folks, I like this idea, esp. for others who may be on a limited income and unable to compete in the auction.

If anyone has one they'd like to list, it's just as simple to do so, here, if not simpler, as it is in the auction.

mg, I'd like the Bok one, too, please!:-)

Thanks!

too late. I already reinvented it and am too old to learn any new tricks. I shall also donate my Gordon Bok apples in a basket C.D. and there is even a song on there from yours truly. Used condition but not awful, i.e. I haven't run my computer chair over it yet. Very nice bunch of songs. I should say this U.S. only and just send your donation to Max. mg

the auction already exists..
if you have c.d's you want to
benefit the 'Cat just use the
auction...no need to re-invent
the wheel..

and if you support the ones
already put up for auction,
that will get the ball (disc?)
rolling.

say you get $5 for a used CD and split it 50/50 with mudcat, sending the $2.50 to Max via paypal. Paypal takes approx 40 cents (maximum); leaving a donation of $2.10. Operating expenses for the mudcat are approximately a penny a minute. that theorectical donation would run the mudcat for well over three hours. To me that is worth something.

Bring the CDs (tapes, LPs, etc) to the Getaway.

Put them in the "Mudcat" pile.

either take out the ones you want, leaving a $TBD donation to Mudcat, or have a silent auction ( for the donation amount).

That way I get a chance to get some!!

its not just a CD exchange - it's a donation to mudcat agreed upon by the two parties - with the CD going to the person donating to mudcat.

Subject: RE: Used CDs for Mudcat Support

I think it would be easier not to auction used ones unless they are somehow unique or rare...just a simple exchange between people. mg

Susan, yes, it could be, but I think she was talking about keeping the price low, so most folks might be able to afford it, I am guessing here, and also immediacy. Not sure, though, really. mg, is that right?

Thanks,

kat

I suggested this in a Max thread. I have at least one almost new CD to donate to someone who would send the money straight to Max. In turn, I would buy a few old ones from someone at say $5 each. They are easy and cheap to ship and you can declutter and help out at the same time. No grand elaborate things to set up...someone could just say I have these CDs for the project and I'll send money straight to Max...I am thinking in US terms though. My CD is Vind du Nord I think it is called...very nice vocals. mg
