While it's still a few months away, the deadline for submitting applications to NOMAD is the end of this month. I'm working on putting together my suggestions for workshops and was wondering which Catters are coming. I especially am looking for people for the Songs From The Attic workshop. There's a separate thread on here by that title, but I thought I'd have more success if I started a thread specific to NOMAD. Besides, I am already looking forward to the festival and wonder which friends will be coming, old and new.

SONGS FROM THE ATTIC:

Dust off those wonderful songs that you haven't done for years and share them with us.

I am also hoping to do a workshop titled:

CHURCH AND STREET CORNER HARMONIES with the Gospel Messengers and a wonderful a capella Doo Wop group from Connecticut called The Sentinels. We're working on lining up the guys from The Sentinels and getting their application in on time. It would be a fun workshop, looking at the Black Gsoepl roots of Doo Wop and comparing approaches to harmony. I tell you, if I can get Joe Evans, our bass singer, and Ken Mewes who sings bass with the Sentinels together, that will make the whole festival sing, for me.

If you're coming, please post to this thread. If you're interested in the Songs From The Attic workshop, either post here, or on the thread of that name.

Hope to see you there..

Jerry

We are planning to do an application. Haven't done much yet. Thanks for the heads-up.

Peter.

I'll be there as audience, to smile, clap, sing along, & hug, as appropriate.

Frank and I will be there. Not sure about the rest of ShoreGrass, although I sent in an application for the band to do something. I enjoy NOMAD despite the fact that all performers are volunteers (no pay) because I enjoy sharing our music plus going to the concerts and workshops and the occasional great jam. It's a nice festival with lots of good programs. In fact, perhaps I like it BECAUSE all the performers are volunteers, which takes money out of the equation and leaves the joy of making music. (How did I get off on this track?)

Anyway, The Shaws would be happy to be part of a "Songs from the Attic" workshop if it works out.

CAMSCO, Dick, and I will NOT be there this year, due to the conflict with the Getaway.

I'll be there, and would love to join the "Songs from the Attic" workshop. I'll probably only be there on Saturday (paying gig at a retirement home in Cheshire on Sunday), and didn't put on my app that I shouldn't be booked at the same time as anyone else, so I'm counting on you to tell them, Jerry, if you still want me!

Hey, Animaterra: That would be lovely. Or is it loverly? I'm putting down my availability from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, and if Barbara and Frank end up being available at the same time, that'd make a nice workshop. When I send in my application, I;ll but all of you done as participants. I'm holding off a little bit longer, just hoping to hear positive news from the a capella group, The Sentinels to see if they will join the Gospel Messengers in a Church And Street Corner Harmony workshop (if the powers that be and NOMAD approve it..)

As always, I'm excited about being at the Festival, and it would be a real pleasure sharing a workshop with you.

Filling out the NOMAD application has just shifted
to the top of my "to do" list... I expect that
I'll put in for something along the lines of NY/NE songs again,
and am always happy to swap ballads.

Songs from the Attic? Sounds like fun.
Count me in, if you wish.

Thanks, Pamela:

I'll let this thread run awhile longer and see if anyone else is interested. Then I'll make suggestions to NOMAD and we'll take it from there. Having run a folk Festival for many years, and a Folk/Gospel Festival, I know how frustrating it is trying to get all the pieces to fit, doing the workshop. I'll take whoever fits, and be appreciate of the company.

Hi Folks,

While we're at it, we need to correct some confusion about the e-mail address to send applications. Some of the earlier contacts went out from us with a return address of performers@nomadfest.org. That was "performers" (plural). That address is currently not working.

The correct address to send NOMAD performer applications is performer@nomadfest.org. That's "performer" (singular).

We are also bummed out by the conflict with the Getaway. We will miss seeing some friends who have become regulars at NOMAD. Maybe the two groups can coordinate next year and avoid the conflict.

Regards,
John

Thanks for posting the correction, John: I hope that we all can make up in spirit for any loss in attendance we might experience at NOMAD.

Better yet, I hope that our attendance increases, despite the conflict in dates.

Jerry

Hi! I'm a visitor here, but I found out about this site from someone at last year's NOMAD (which I loved, by the way!).
I have two questions:

1. What's the Gateway?

2. (not really a question, merely a whine) the on-line NOMAD application form seems to work only on certain computers. I think the "folky" in me wants to remind the computer-nerd world that not everyone has the big hard fast expensive computers that the people who write these forms seem to take for granted.

I hope to see some of you at NOMAD this year!

I, too, will miss NOMAD this year because of the Getaway. John, some clarification for you. The Getaway is moving to a new location this year and this was the only weekend available. In 2007 it should be back to a weekend in Oct. and therefore not conflict with NOMAD. I'm disappointed to have to miss this year.

I enjoyed NOMAD very much last year and i was lucky enough to be invited to do a few a songs by Lyn Noel during her one of her sets. I was very kindly asked to come back by some of the organisers. unfortunalty I can't make it this year but I hope to make back ( i would try and make it coincide with the getaway if it doesnt clash!)

oops! I can spell. really I really can! I meant "What is the Getaway" not the "Gateway." When the misspelled word is a different real word, it's hard to spot.
Also I probably shouldn't have mentioned my computer whine here - it's probably not appropriate. My "ex" was a nerd and was always scornful of people who didn't have the latest greatest gear (think of Guys and Cars and you'll know what I mean).

back to the topic... I hope more people come to NOMAD this year - I thought it was sparse. It's a great festival, but maybe not enough people hear about it soon enough. How can we help publicize it?

Hi guest melinda, the Getaway is a gathering of the Washington DC/Baltimore area folk societies (not sure exactly) & folkies who a few years ago where gracious enough to welcome mudcatters into their fold & since has allowed us here (at Mudcat) to sort of merge with them. It's held at a camp/retreat site also local to them. People usuall start gathering on a set friday & play & sing until Monday am. There are workshops put on by attendees, instrumental jams & singing sessions 24/7. It's quite a family & family reunion where newbies are warmly invited in & taken into the fold quickly, even the shy find it a fast take (I think & hope). If you search this site for 'Getaway" you'll find more than you'll want to read.

Barry

Thanks Karen, for the clarification about the dates for the Getaway. We noticed the new location and figured that the FSGW probably didn't have any choice of dates. It's a familiar story.
