OK....so take the sharp pointy objects out of my reach especially while I'm sitting in chairs.....I never said that I had any table manners. Hey, can you imagine what I could do to a croissant if left to my own demise. Maybe a loaf of French bread would be better suited next meal....right next to the cantaloupes. Kendall, help me please. I hear that you have a bronze bust....wow!!!
You guys are the best. Lots of good music and fun yesterday. We have a two hour slot at Mystic for chanteys and sea music and I thinks we should share our fun and music with others. I hope many will join in at this session. It will be rousing and fun as Charlie has stated.
I just keep thinking about what the world would be like if they did chanteys in the oval office. More songs...better world. Jeri, that was a really neat song....you must have had a great choreographer to help with the ideas....thanks. We just did a two hour set in Rocport this afternoon for Motif #1 days. Good fun, good music and a great dinner compliments of the Rockport Chamber of Commerce. I don't think this restaurant was ready for us either....See you all soon.
Tom and Linn....thanks for your Press Room Saturdays...just incredibel and lots of fun. (Joanne is a saint.....pity and suffering go to the kind folks in the world) Someone has to keep the lid on me or string or margarine. She has seven therapists...I don't need one.
Be well, be safe, be happy.
Doryman and his mate.

There's nothing like one of these sessions, strength in depth, for trying out a new song or lofting an old one. It's a real shame we can only sing at the Press Room for four hours.

The only solution for such a dilemma is to come to the Mystic Sea Music Festival, June 8-11 where you can sing for 4 days straight, 24 hours per day.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

A fun evening. And Jeri finally sang Molly Mauk for me.

I insist that you include a verse about a small tip being left for the waitress. Wonder who Joanne uses as a therapist. The woman is a saint.

The Gloucester group really fills the room. And to have my old friend Brett at hand - WOW! And Mark tucked away in the back...

Song List, Linn? Mainly the ballad sung at the back table by one of the Gloucestermen. I don't know his name. And Barbara Cuenin's lament.

Thank you to George for his good natured role as my prop. And special thanks to Tom and Linn who make these nights possible.

Hi guys!

See my thread about "mudcat's own in recycling bin": badly worded, but I was in a hurry...

The Evil Tape Recorder suffered a transient ischemic event! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!

I made it up there. Lessee... (based on Peter's penifying of an oddly shaped dinner roll (They were ALL shaped that way) which involved removing the bits that didn't look like a willie and doing rude things with it, I THINK they went something like:

I never seen the like since I've been born
A dinner roll with a wee hard-on

Bless our sweet immortal souls
Pete sure likes them dinner rolls

His willie now has met it's fate
Been carried off on a dinner plate

Way, hey, ROLL and go...

(I've written a few more, but they aren't the traditional verses and would defile the pristine purity of the original newly made up verses.)

This was much fun. I probably had more fun than I should reasonably have been having. I had a severe case of giggles, probably due to mild hysteria caused by the stress of having lost stuff in my basement. In any case, all sorts of things were funny as hell that normally aren't. I sort of almost understand Bread-Boy. If I'd had a tube of superglue yesterday, I would have gotten into a boat-load of trouble.

Hey, Brian, it's been so looong since you've been at one of the shanty sessions!

The Gloucester crew has been joining us and sharing their energy, songs and enthusiasm since last November. Really great to have Al and Barbara Cuenin from New York joining us again, too. More great songs! And Lynne Cullen's becoming a regular and welcome addition

The more the merrier! Each addition adds more songs, interpretations and knowledge to the session.

Ayuh, Brett took the prize for coming the furthest distance. Wouldn't it be great for all of us to converge on his place for his Fourth of July party? Where are REALLY cheap group air rates when you need 'em?!?

Fantastic to hear "youngsters" Owen and Colin joining the circle! Good choice of songs, too.

I don't know whether I caught on tape Jeri's re-working of "Ten Stone" to incorporate an incident at dinner last weekend. I was laughing too hard to notice when the tape clicked off so won't know until I listen to it when I flipped the tape and turned it back on. Yeah, yeah, I know it was an "in joke" -- ah, but a reminder to Peter that Jeri can commemorate in song just about anything that happens.

Linn

Hey, wake up already! I was pleasantly surprised by many familiar faces. I must say that was one of the biggest crowds I have seen there on a Saturday session. I hope everyone got home safe and are baling safely if they need to.

Hmmm - we do normally reach Portsmouth by crossing that little low bridge - maybe we should rethink our route. Not worried about the session: "...but we stayed dry 'cause we're so high - Tanqueray Martini-o!" (apologies to Jon Campbell).

Tom assures me that Portsmouth was all pumped out, to a roaring shanty of course.

Sing one for me! Don't matter which one!

I got a note from Barbara Benn, last known to be in
Bristol England... but that was yesterday. Who knows
where she is today? Sounds like she's on a great adventure.
The folks over there are gobbling up her "exotic"
American songs... go figure! But then, maybe you all
heard from her at the same time.

I hope to get back to the Press Room... sometime.
Won't be June this year. Maybe September.
I'd sure like to be there for the downtown fest again.
Was great seeing some of you last weekend.

cheers, Pamela

Oh, I believe that Al & Barb from South Street Sea Port are dropping in again. Maybe they'll give us an update on their recent trip to Oz.

Judy and I are looking forward to another round. Nor and Eli may drop in later as they're driving back from MA after picking up her diploma, Devine Master or some such thing; every shanty group should have a resident priestess!

Have a great time, Tom. I hope to make it back one of these months.

I just spent a little time with Joe Hickerson last week when he was in Cooperstown NY. He seems to know a few songs....

Sorry to be so late in posting, but with having been away all weekend having too much musical fun, the floods, and the Mudcat outages..

Anyway, the monthly shanty / forebitter session for May will be happening this Saturday, 20 May at The Press Room in Portsmouth NH from 3:30 to 7:30 PM.

In addition to the usual suspects, I've invited Joe Hickerson (who will be in the neighborhood) and Kath Westra (who might be in the neighborhood).

Hope to see a lot of you there to warm up for Mystic -- Tom
