Subject: Need name of Jean Redpath song could nae find

I'm trying to find a song I heard Jean sing on NPR about 3 yrs. ago. I checked through the DT and couldn't find anything close to it. I didn't get the name of the song, but it was about an old couple. He was frail and on the couch by the fire in the kitchen, while she tended to the few things they had (growing?). It's mostly about her love for him, their yrs. together and how sadly his mind lives in the past, telling her to bring in the cattle(I think), she never telling him it's all long gone.

It had me in tears before it was done and don'cha know...the DJ went right on to something else, I had to go in the store and missed coming back when he finally ended the set and named it. The local CD store didn't know, so I bought a CD of her's that sounded likely, but it was not on there. Gorgeous voice, though!

Anyway thanks for any assistance.

Jean Redpath did a megarecording of songs by Robert Burns. So could JOHN ANDERSON, MY JO be what you're looking for?

Thanks, Phillipa, but no. The words were more specifically about her going out, him thinking she was taking care of the critters, and her not telling him they'd sold them long ago. It was really poignant.

Thanks, again.

kat - I found the link below, which has a listing of Jean Redpath's recordings (about a zillion of them), and some have listings of songs on the recordings, so you could start there. That page also has an e-mail address you can send questions to - maybe whoever's on the receiving end can help you.

Jean is an amazing singer - I've been lucky enough to see her in person a few times and she's been on Prairie Home Companion singing duets with Garrison.

THANKS! Susan-Marie. When I did a search with just her name, that site wasn't one of the ones that came up. I will check it out today.

The song I am looking for is one she sang on Prairie Home Companion. I've heard her on there several times. Wish I had the chance to see her, as you have. She has such a haunting quality to her voice.

Thanks, again,

katlaughing

Similar subject, Bill, but it's not the one I heard. I've seen gone on the website, Susan-Marie mentioned and emailed the people in charge to try to find out the name. Will let everyone know if I am successful. It's truly a beautifula nd heart-wrenching song.

BTW, the one you linked me to is also very beautiful, esp. the tune!

Thanks,

Katlaughing
