Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: oombanjo Date: 31 May 06 - 01:15 PM should have done this to start with, much less complanicomunicated and much easier to spell. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Kampervan Date: 01 Jun 06 - 04:54 PM So McFat, are you working, busking or just bobbing along at B F F this year? The usual cases of Diocesan Digit or Fokke's Nemesis will be available for free sampling by anyone who doesn't mind being seen drinking beer from Kent. (ABV 5.4%) |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 02 Jun 06 - 07:11 AM I don't think I'm down for anythink offishus so I will be there in the capacity of a performer heckler and perhaps gigilo. Don't mind being seen drinking southern poofter namby pamby beer (spesh if it's free) |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 03 Jun 06 - 08:09 AM Jim I did PM you about sharing my "Sun" duties R |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 03 Jun 06 - 12:36 PM Cookie down Rog. No problem was intending to be with you or Big Mick anyway. Jim |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Kampervan Date: 03 Jun 06 - 04:31 PM Cookie down Rog? What's up,has someone bagged a flying biscuit? i say, spiffin good shot, what? God Jim, you don't half sound establishment. Paul |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 03 Jun 06 - 04:43 PM Terribly sorry old bean. Establishment oh my gawd !!!! I'll be going for elecution lessons next. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: GUEST,oggie Date: 03 Jun 06 - 04:57 PM Don't forget to visit Beverley Market on the Saturday. Still a traditional market with lots of different foods and goods on sale. I reccomend East Riding Sausages and the pie stall! For those who are camping it's also the only source of fresh fruit and veg without using Marks or Tesco. Enlightened self interest at play here as I also run the Fretwork/Toy stall (and I may even bring my Bandoneon along for a play) All the best Oggie (aka Steve) |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: GUEST,Rattler Date: 03 Jun 06 - 06:47 PM I'll be there along with others of my kin (see guest list) so cover your ears; we do exactly what it says on the tin! |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Kampervan Date: 03 Jun 06 - 06:52 PM Hey Oggie That was sounding really good til you mentioned fresh fruit and veg! The sausage and pie stall sounds like an excellent way to recover on Saturday morning. Nothing mops up the beer like a good meat pie. And sausages on Sunday morning is just so ----- civilised. Specially when they're cooked, outside the tent, with eggs, kidneys, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon, bread and butter and sweet tea. What's the weather forecast for BFF then? |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Shiplap Structure3 Date: 04 Jun 06 - 10:32 AM Saturdays wouldnt be Saturday without a spinach pie from the Italian Bakers stall (just look for the longest queue in the market) |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Hand-Pulled Boy Date: 04 Jun 06 - 01:02 PM There's a good stall selling lamp shades as well. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Kampervan Date: 04 Jun 06 - 02:50 PM Well this all sounds wonderful, but is there a stall selling Foster and Allen C.D.'s, and playing Country & Western covers loudly? HANG ON. Didn't this thread use to be about the folk festival? Only two weeks to go. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Linda Kelly Date: 04 Jun 06 - 04:06 PM Yes this is supposed to be a music thread -why has no-one mentioned the excellent self service fruit and veg stall opposite the Playhouse-excellent Jerusalem Artichoke! |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Graham and Jo Date: 04 Jun 06 - 04:46 PM Couldn't look at another Jeruselem Artichoke. We still have a fridge full from the allotment. The Sun have booked a band for the Saturday night by the way, but we don't know what they're like. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Kampervan Date: 04 Jun 06 - 07:28 PM Aaaah. the Playhouse. I remember sitting on a bench outside the Playhouse one year, eating a kebab, trying to sober up enough to buy another drink. I don't think that I got the kebab from the market, although it was a shop in the market place. So that nearly counts. And the singing inside was fantastic. Rory Mccleod as I recall. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: danensis Date: 05 Jun 06 - 03:40 PM I'm afraid I find the festival line-up very uninspiring. I have the suspicion that Beverley is going to go the way of the Burnley Folk Festival. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Kampervan Date: 05 Jun 06 - 06:04 PM Danesis Hey cheer up! Not having been to the Burnley festival I can't really comment on the comparison except to say that whatever the line-up , good or bad, the Fringe at Beverley is always fantastic. In fact it is so good that a few years ago they didn't bother having a line-up at all, and the Fringe by itself was enough to keep the whole weekend going. The town is great, the atmosphere is fantastic and the singing and playing in all of sessions is enthusiastic ...................... and frequently quite talented. It's meeting old friends and having a good time that keeps us going back, not the line-up. O.k. having a cracking guest list mean sthat there's loads of choice as to who you have to miss in order to stay at the singaround for another few hours, but hey, what the hell? Come on and enjoy yourself. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: John J Date: 06 Jun 06 - 11:37 AM We'd like to come to the fringe; what's the situation for camping? We have a small caravan. John |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Digby Date: 06 Jun 06 - 02:29 PM Whats happening at the Sun??? We had to pass through Beverley yesterday and noticed the Sun Inn open so we popped in for quick refreshment and a chat with landlord. After a discussion with the said advertisement for a pin cushion I got the feeling that folkies are no longer welcome in the sun and are referred to as "Freakies". he mentioned everyone was welcome but was not happy about session music being played in the sun ?? Although the bar music was very heavy rock it did not fit in with the pub as we know it. We decided not to push our luck and continue with the conversation , have the locals got an alternative situ for us or did we misunderstand the mohican clad gent? |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: squeezeboxhp Date: 06 Jun 06 - 05:16 PM check the holmfirth situation , getting back to the origins of festivals where all turned up and entertained each other for free plus pay for what you feel would be your fancy, dance if you will and don't forget the late night session in the tent bring your own ale |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Gedpipes Date: 07 Jun 06 - 04:45 AM Digby See the Beverley sessions thread for discussions re the Sun Blue skies Ged |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: ossonflags Date: 07 Jun 06 - 06:35 AM Digby, I am hoping there is a misunderstanding here.As far as I am aware we are always welcome at the "Sun" on the Sundays that I attend. I have heard several negative reports about the sessions on fridays but cannot really comment further about those as it is some time since I was in there on a Friday. Over to you the Friday regulars? |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Paco Rabanne Date: 07 Jun 06 - 09:22 AM I reckon the fringe has become the real festival in recent years. This is the third year in a row that I haven't bought a weekend ticket because most of the main acts should be at a rock or jazz festival.ps Stand back, Sophia is back from Uni and will be with us this year. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: John J Date: 07 Jun 06 - 10:20 AM Any idea if I can bring my caravan to the Fringe? John |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: nutty Date: 07 Jun 06 - 11:59 AM John J , you need to apply to Festival Office for a camping permit for your caravan. If they have spaces left, you do not need to buy a season ticket. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: GUEST Date: 08 Jun 06 - 12:02 PM Sun landlords come and go. Sometimes that might be good. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Graham and Jo Date: 08 Jun 06 - 05:08 PM Fridays there have been some good sessions despite being shifted to the snug which is small. Last Friday counted 21 people some squeezed outside doorway. Session included traditional music, songs old and new, Stones and Beatles numbers and rock and roll sung in Russian by a chap from Ukraine. Great night. But heavy metal still played at bar although only one customer was there for that. Some regulars have been driven away. If more come to the session we can put more pressure on re background music. Session on tomorrow anyway. We'll see what happens. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 09 Jun 06 - 03:37 AM Good luck with Fridays - we all support you in your struggle. The pub needs live acoustic music to survive. Unfortunately my hearing problem means that any background noise makes it very difficult for me, which is why I haven't been along recently. R |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 09 Jun 06 - 03:38 AM ps The first Friday of the Folk Festival(next week) is a good chance for all available mudcatters to swamp the place out with folkies. R |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: ossonflags Date: 09 Jun 06 - 11:06 AM And we will. |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: John J Date: 09 Jun 06 - 11:10 AM |
Subject: RE: Beverley Folk Festival From: John J Date: 09 Jun 06 - 11:10 AM Whoops!! I've just started a Beverley Fringe thread. John |
