A version I've heard is:

Dough--the stuff that buys me beer
Ray--the guy who pours my beer
Me--the guy who drinks my beer
Fa(r)--a long way for a beer
So, I'll have another beer
La, I'll have another beer
Tea--no thanks, I'll have a beer
And that brings me back to dough.

I went to week long SCA event once, and every night there would be drunken bands of people wandering around the encampment until at least two or three in the morning singing this song at the top of their lungs.

The inimitable Zeke Hoskin created another version of Doe a Deer, based on something he read that said the scale originally started on La, and was minor (Aolean, for you mode folks, however you spell it).
It is sung, of course, in minor, and goes, as best as I recall:
La, is la for Lamentation,
Ti, for trouble everywhere
Do, the high cost of funerals
Re, of hope is in the air?
Mi, I wish that I was dead
Fa, too far to go for help,
So, I'll shoot myself instead,
(that will bring us back to La, la, la, la...)

Blessings,
Barbara
