Hi Kat
I have just replaced the batteries in our little mouse and she is happily singing once more as clear as ever.

I had to carefully unpick the stitches on her back.
Take out the voice box also unpicking the stitches
in the little bag that encased the box.

Using a small cross-head screwdriver I opened it up
and removed the 3 small button batteries
having identified the type/no we then re-ordered from "7 day shop"
at less than £1(BP)per pack of 10.

Now she is singing again - until we get tired and shut her up!
but I shot a video of her singing in case the voice box ever breaks.
It lasted about 2 years last time with children in the house that's not bad and now we have 7 more batteries enough for 2 more replacements! regards

We had 4 mice - Two did the 'We will find it' song and two did another that my addled grey cells cannot recall. It was good fun to set them off in time so they did a round. Drove my son (fully grown) mad when I did it for the hundreth time. Nice to see I can get my own back occasionaly:-)

I don't know if the Bagpuss show is at Chippenham this year, but it is at Sidmouth FolkWeek on Sunday 1 August at the Manor Pavilion. There are two shows, afternoon and early evening.

In the original TV programme, Sandra was Madeleine the Rag Doll and some of the mice. John Faulkner was Gabriel the Toad.

The Bagpuss show at Chippenham (for kids of all ages) was Sandra Kerr with Nancy, James Fagan and John Faulkner. I got to introduce it because Bob Berry liked the idea of Kitty and Bagpuss at the same event.....

Thanks, folks! Micca, I'd never realised they were that close in tune. I'll have to try that out on the piano, but just sight-reading in my mind, it looks almost the same.

Khat, how long has yours lasted, singing-wise? We don't play them very often as I want them to last. Seems kind of mean they don't make them with replaceable batteries!

I have a Bagpuss singing mouse.....it used to sit on my monitor at work but everytime someone would walk passed they would set it off, so I had to bring it home and it sits with Micca's Eeyore on the computer desk!

Having learned about Bagpuss, the children's tv show in the UK, through how Mudcat's Bagpuss chose his name, I now have a Bagpuss, the toy cat and TWO of the singing mice. They are SO adorable and fun.

Anyway, there are a couple of places where I can't quite get the lyrics, just a word or two, so I went looking on google and found this bit about the "Fix It Song" which the mice sing:

That's the same tune sung at the end of cult horror "The Wicker Man" while Ewar Woowar is meeting his maker.

Anyone know if this is true? Also, if anyone could post the correct lyrics, that'd be great. It's just a bit muffled and I'd like my grandson to learn the it the right way.:-)

Here's what I think they are:

We will find it
We will bind it
We will stick it with glue, glue, glue.

We will stickered(?)it,
Every little bit of it,
