I have been asked to play solo violin at a friends wedding. Any ideas of what tunes I should play in the church. I would like to play a mixture of Celtic tunes. I'm from Ireland and the weddings in Scotland. Samples would be great!

How about "Haste to the Wedding". That's an English song to a tune that's either Scots or Irish. The Scots title was "The Small Pincushion" and Irish titles are "Carrickfergus" and "A Trip to the Dargle". ABC's of two variants of 1768 under the "Carrickfergus" title are T001A and B in file T1. on my website. www.erols.com/olsonw

Hi Pete,

If you do a forum search (go back to the main threads page and look up near the top of the page) using the words "celtic wedding" in the subject field you'll find a couple of threads on this. There are lots of really good suggestions of tunes there.

Helen

Hi again,

I've refreshed the two Celtic wedding threads, but if you search for the word "wedding" in the subject field you'll get heaps more.

By the way, maybe here is as good a place as any to announce that I'll be needing some of these songs/tunes myself in a few month's time - possibly September (that's Spring here in Oz, just to remind you northerners). Finally found a nice bloke to tie the knot with.

Hi Pete. if you go to the Barry Taylor midi site there is a Canadian tune called Prince Edward Island Wedding Reel which is quite a pleasant tune worth playing

What a great time to pop in for a quick flash through the threads and get great news of one of our own. Congratulations to you Helen, and let the lad know that we send our best. Let us know the date and all, OK? I would love to dedicate a song to one of the best of our cyber citizens at a future gig.

All the very best,

Mick

Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes. I'll be thinking of all the Mudcateers when I hear some of these wedding tunes playing. My problem is that *I* want to be the one playing them but it'snot a likely scenario on that particular day, unless my sister, her husband & I finally get around to recording some of the tunes before then.

Helen
