Subject: Lyr Add: SEVEN DAFFODILS From: Peace Date: 07 Jun 06 - 03:38 PM try a google of seven daffodils, mp3 I cannot link to one of the sites that come up, but there are a few. Donegan tended to ust basic chords, so in a few hours (or tomorrow), if you can find a site that has an mp3, I will do the chords for you (unless someone else gets to it before then. To ensure were talking about the same song, are these the lyrics? Seven Daffodils I do not have a mansion, and I haven't any land, Not even one dollar to crinkle in my hand. But I can show you morning on a thousand hills, And kiss you and give you seven daffodils. I do not have a fortune to buy you pretty things, But I can weave you moonbeams for necklaces and rings, And I can show you morning on a thousand hills, And kiss you and give you seven daffodils. Seven golden daffodils, all shining in the sun, They light the way of evening, when our day is done. And I can give you music, and a crust of bread, A pillow of piney boughs to rest your head. Thank you. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: lonnie donegan:7 Golden Daffodils From: Joe Offer Date: 07 Jun 06 - 05:14 PM Hi, John - there are lyrics, chords, and a MIDI in this thread I don't know that I can say it's exactly Lonnie's arrangement, but most arrangements of this song are more-or-less the same. I admit that the MIDI (click) I made is a little fast. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: lonnie donegan:7 Golden Daffodils From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Jun 06 - 04:44 PM Ayup, it was written by Lee Hays, with lyrics by his sister, Fran Moseley. As far as I can tell, it wasn't recorded by Hays or by the Weavers - but it have come to be identified with Lonnie Donegan. More about the song's history in the Origins thread (click). -Joe- |

Subject: Chords Add: SEVEN DAFFODILS From: Big Al Whittle Date: 25 Nov 08 - 01:32 PM I think( I could be wrong) Lonnie used to do this one in F (which ain't really a guitarists key) I'm sure you could do it better than he used to. F Bflat F c7 F I do not have a mansion, and I haven't any land, Bflat F G7 C7 Not even one dollar to crinkle in my hand. F Gm7 C7 F (am7 with F on fret one) Dminor But I can show you morning on a thousand hills, Bflat Bflatminor F c7 F And kiss you and give you seven daffodils. I could be wrong, but that's how I seem to remember it. Even if I'm right. Transpose it. Only a 15 year old idiot in love with Lonnies music would persevere with those chords! al |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: lonnie donegan:7 Golden Daffodils From: cptsnapper Date: 26 Nov 08 - 03:20 AM I've always played the first two F chords shown as Dmin: when it comes to Bb I cheat & just cover the 5th. string on the 1st. fret & the 4th. & 2nd. strings on the 3rd. I also drop the 6th. string down to D. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: lonnie donegan:7 Golden Daffodils From: GUEST,mark dawson Date: 12 Jan 09 - 12:11 PM The chord on "hills" should be A minor, NOT D minor! |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: lonnie donegan:7 Golden Daffodils From: GUEST,Mark Dawson Date: 12 Jan 09 - 12:15 PM Also, in reply to "which album?" - it was the B-side of the single "Have a drink on me" - purple Pye label, around 1959? |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: lonnie donegan:7 Golden Daffodils From: Will Fly Date: 12 Jan 09 - 04:11 PM As Lonnie was originally a banjo and guitar player with jazz bands like Ken Colyer's and Chris Barber's, it would be very normal for him to play the song in a key like F. In my years in a mainstream jazz band, most of the repertoire we played was in the keys of Bb, Eb and Ab, plus the relative minors of those keys. In reality, if you play (for example) Sweet Georgia Brown in F, most of the passing chords are quite easy changes - D7, G7, C7, etc. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Seven Daffodils / Seven Golden Daffodil From: GUEST,BB1942 Date: 26 Jan 12 - 03:23 AM I have just re-discovered my banjo uke and was looking for the tunes we played way back and found this site. I still have the 45 of Donnies version. My mate, 5 string banjo, reckons the drummer falls off his stool at the end. We must have sounded awful, 2 16 year olds whining away. Happy days. |
