Subject: BS: Brahma Beer From: Dave the Gnome Date: 08 Jun 06 - 04:25 AM I have seen this expensive and very hyped beer in the shops for months now. Last night I decided to try it. I wish I hadn't bothered. Whereas Bud is cold fizzy and tastes of nothing, this is cold fizzy and tastes awful:-( What a coup for the marketing men though! Managing to sell it as 'Brizils best kept secret'. I wish they would have kept it a bit longer. What am I comparing it to? My favourites? In order: Black sheep bitter. Robinsons mild. Leffe brun. OK - Start kicking me now... Cheers DtG |

Subject: RE: BS: Brahma Beer From: Paul Burke Date: 08 Jun 06 - 04:47 AM They're trying to repeat what they did when they convinced all the yoofs to drink Aussie lager. Everybody old enough to remember Barry McKenzie knew that Aussies would drink anything as long as it was cold enough. I'll go along with your gargle, pint of each, thanks. But no wonder Trappists didn't speak. They probably couldn't. However, cue for poetry. BRAHMA - Ralph Waldo Emerson If the red slayer think he slays, Or if the slain think he is slain, They know not well the subtle ways I keep, and pass, and turn again. (That sounds like rugby to me.) Far or forgot to me is near, Shadow and sunlight are the same, The vanished gods to me appear, And one to me are shame and fame. They reckon ill who leave me out; When me they fly, I am the wings; I am the doubter and the doubt, And I the hymn the Brahmin sings. The strong gods pine for my abode, And pine in vain the sacred Seven; But thou, meek lover of the good! Find me, and turn thy back on heaven. |

Subject: RE: BS: Brahma Beer From: Nigel Parsons Date: 08 Jun 06 - 01:25 PM And one of the popular Australian beers is called: "XXXX" (pronounced four ecks) because they can't spell "S**T" CHEERS Nigel |

Subject: RE: BS: Brahma Beer From: TheBigPinkLad Date: 08 Jun 06 - 01:28 PM I tried it too, in my capacity of clever-sh*t-when-it-comes-to-beer (I have a reputation to maintain ;o) and yes, it just another sub-arctic flavourless fizz. Lovely girls in the ads though. Ironically, where I grew up the word Brahma was a synonym for marvellous. |

Subject: RE: BS: Brahma Beer From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 08 Jun 06 - 03:57 PM Thanks for the warning. Planty of good lagers though, mostly from the heart of Europe. Real Czech Budweiser (Budvar) is well worth looking out for, especially if it's on draught. I'm still astonished at the nerve of the Yank Budweiser people buying up a sponsorship deal with a World Cup held in Germany. The ads are funny enough - but that slogan about "We do the beer, you do the football" is laughable. |

Subject: RE: BS: Brahma Beer From: Bill D Date: 08 Jun 06 - 04:04 PM There is a Brazilian beer called Brahma Chopp which I tried once...years ago. I assume this is the one. It wasn't 'bad', but was still just a plain lager...if it was not very fresh, it could easily go from tolerable to nasty VERY fast. |
