Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: MMario Date: 09 Jun 06 - 10:08 AM despite rumours that they were nothing but a lip-synching, dubbed track, plastic music "boy band', it cannot be denied that The 'Beef Brothers' according to those who were priviliged to hear them live were the real thing. above excerpted from 'Schrodinger's Mudcat' a history of the internet phenomenom; RumRunner Press; Luna City 2156 |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: SINSULL Date: 09 Jun 06 - 11:03 AM August 11th - Jed Marum House Concert in South Portland. Any chance of Big Mick joining the festivities? A BEEF BROS REUNION? Friday is Jed Marum; Sunday is Seamus Kennedy. Come for both and there will be room and board in it for you. How about Tinker and Dani? Maybe a Lobster Boil on Saturday too. We can make it a festival. |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: Wesley S Date: 09 Jun 06 - 11:05 AM I've heard stories about their prison tour. Folks were trying to get INTO prison just to hear them. You can imagine the excitment when the inmates heard the Beef Brothers were coming. |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 09 Jun 06 - 12:46 PM My God, Mick! In that pic with you, Jed, Rick an Paul, you look like you swallowed a Volkswagen! I understand y'all are reconfiguring (so to speak) as the Beef Lite Bros. Seamus |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: katlaughing Date: 09 Jun 06 - 12:49 PM He is indeed reconfigured, Seamus. (Nice way to put it!) I almost didn't recognise him in that old picture.:-) Seeing Rick reminds me that Life just isn't very damn fair sometimes, but it sure is good to *see* the memories. kat |

Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: Amos Date: 09 Jun 06 - 09:22 PM The new handle will be Kyobe Brothers, I understand, to account for the lower profiles and higher ticket costs!! (I suppose they could be called Sushi and Sosume, or something like that, as well...) A |

Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: JedMarum Date: 09 Jun 06 - 11:17 PM Wow! Where'd all these pics come from? Mick just about sh*t when I put on my hat to make the drive from his house in MI to Paul and Bev's place in Toronto. He said "You're not going to believe this, but ..." and he put on his hat - we matched! We'd also both cut off our hair around the same time .... go figure! Nice to see Rick, looking healthy and happy. They were good days. Some would say blessed days! |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: Big Mick Date: 10 Jun 06 - 07:58 AM OK .... OK .... I give up. You have officially gotten me out of my funk. I am going through some shit just now that hasn't killed my desire to sing and commune with human beings, but it has seriously damaged it. My dear friend Jed, and my great buddy Seamus, and all of you have just virtually slapped me upside the head and told me to get on with it. What great pic's!! Jed, I had no idea that some of these were out there. The one with you and I, Rick and Paul is friggin' priceless and I must get a good quality copy. I want that one on the wall. It is the only one I have seen of all four Beefers. Mary, m'love, I am going to do my very best to come up for the weekend. There is something going on in my life just now that might screw us up, but I will get in touch with you and see if we can make this happen. Wouldn't it be grand to do it the same weekend as Seamus and Jed. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: JedMarum Date: 10 Jun 06 - 09:15 AM ... actually Seamus got this thread started, by accusing me of having non-Beef Brotherlike skinny legs in the Texas Scottish Fest thread. I had just come across that old picture and thought it would be fun to post it. I'm pretty sure we can blame Bev Mills for snapping the photo. It was a cold February day in '02 and we just recorded "Desolation Island" - too much winter for a Dallas boy (even a transplanted Dallas boy). So we finished the album in July! |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: SINSULL Date: 10 Jun 06 - 10:09 AM Those were the good old days when the single ladies and single men shared a cabin and a bath at the Getaway. I remember answering a call of nature in the middle of the night, walking straight into a Beef Brother and not being sure which one he was demanded "Who are you?!" It was Jed. If I am not mistaken that was also the year when Janie crept up to Annie in the shower (it was freezing cold) and asked if she could share the hot water. Unfortunately a booming Big Mick answered "Come on in!" She scurried back to bed. |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: JedMarum Date: 10 Jun 06 - 10:57 AM LOL yep ... |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: Jeri Date: 10 Jun 06 - 05:14 PM Mick, come up for this. If you need anything, let me know. I'll see if I can get it from somebody. I'm not working for a bit and can do whatever the hell I want, within reason. Kendall and Jacqui might loan you the motorhome so you don't have to do the motel thing, plus you could jam until the wee hours and get totally hammered and not have to drive anywhere. I swear, if you show up in a bad mood, you won't stay in one long. It will take some serious determination to stay bummed out. Mary's place is the most fun I've had since Rick's back yard. Jed, you do have skinny legs. Rick, however, didn't have a beard OR a ponytail when he was a Beef, and Paul doesn't have a ponytail. It's not just certain physical attributes, but has more to do with attitude... Well, no, not really, it's about being Beefy, but it also has something to do with the bull. |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: SINSULL Date: 10 Jun 06 - 08:43 PM Hammered? On iced tea and apple cider? I think not. But if you and Jed are willing to model the Getaway costumes I might be persuaded to provide something more to your liking. It's that or a naked legs contest. I don't believe I have had a chance to judge them. |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: Stilly River Sage Date: 10 Jun 06 - 10:19 PM Someone had better have a camera handy. . . |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: JedMarum Date: 12 Jun 06 - 10:53 AM Getaway costumes?? Like running shoes and shorts - or what?? |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: SINSULL Date: 12 Jun 06 - 12:28 PM A hint: They run on batteries. Saturday Concert will be quite a show! |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: Ferrara Date: 12 Jun 06 - 10:16 PM Ummmm.... Just keep in mind that Saturday Concert is a Family Event, ok? With little kids & everything? Let's see ... last year's Mudcat Special was Cheesecake, so this year it's gonna be beefcake? |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: Alaska Mike Date: 12 Jun 06 - 10:55 PM Beef brothers? HA!!! Looked like a bunch of wimps to me. |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 13 Jun 06 - 12:43 AM Attaboy, MIke! You tell 'em! Now, here's a REAL Beef Brother, folks! Finest Alaska Muktuk, and that's no B.S. Seamus |
Subject: RE: Beef Brothers Music From: SINSULL Date: 13 Jun 06 - 10:17 PM Ferrara - without giving away any secrets, I promise the kids will love this one as will their parents. G Rating. But lots of battery operated props. SINS |
