And it's mean. I accept the fact that Winona is not perfect. Evidently she has some emotional problems. Well, so do a lot of people. Take Chongo, for instance. My buddy the chimp. He is stuck in a cultural time warp. He wants to be a simian Philip Marlowe and he fantasizes about slinky human "dames" in slit skirts with page boy haircuts (I think that's what they're called...the kind where the hair is straight, usually black, bangs at the front, cut fairly short and curling in around the back and sides...it was a popular look in the 20's and 30's). He goes nuts for that look. You could pick on Chongo over the rough points in his personality, and completely miss the good points, which are many. He's a loyal friend, he has tremendous courage, a good sense of humour, and is very resourceful and tenacious and hard-working. He's a born romantic and his word is his bond. There's a lot to be said for that. I think you're looking at Winona through the wrong end of the telescope, buddy, and maybe you oughta check out the beam in your own eye before you go picking on her. |

Find something you totally love, and do it. Put your energy into being happy. Enjoy the moment, because the moment is all you will ever have. Love yourself and love life. If you manage those two, you will certainly love others. (Most of that, however, is not easy at all, and I have had a very hard time managing to do any of it....so I'm not surprised if other people might be in the same boat as me when it comes to that!) |

I have just finished watching 2 great movies with Winona that I had not seen before. Girl Interrupted - terrific performances in this one all-around. Angelina Jolie was given a dynamite role to play in this movie, and she ACED it! Wow. Winona was excellent too, as was the rest of the cast. Age of Innocence - A brilliantly subtle, atmospheric, and powerful movie about the exquisite cruelty of social conformity and convention among the rich elite of New York in the 1870s. Winona gets to play, for a change, a woman who is apparently not terribly bright...but she turns out in the end to have been a bit smarter than anyone might have thought. Daniel Day-Lewis is marvelous, as always and ditto for Michelle Pfeiffer. This is a movie for people who think, but not for people who want to watch things blow up "real good". That's why I like Winona. She has subtlety, and in an age when subtlety is not much appreciated or even acknowledged by the general public, she has managed to bring it to many of the parts she has played. The same goes for Daniel Day-Lewis. He's a truly great actor. |

I will die some years from now, hard to say exactly when, and I'll turn in this old body when I do. I will return merrily to Spirit. Presently Winona will do likewise. We shall then either get together there in Spirit...or I shall arrange to be reborn about the same time she is...and I'll have another go at this project then. I'm the patient type. ;-) |
