It is a poem, not a song. As best I can remember, it goes like this:

Midwestern heart. Big, ornery thing. Beating away in the chest.
Steadfast as Midwestern weather is.
Loves too hard, laughs too much.
Sometimes doesn't laugh enough.
Moralistic, masochistic, Honest.
It throbs to simple fun.
Dress it up in spats and tails
And watch it do the foxtrot around the world.
It resonates the rolling meadows, lush landscapes, everything.
It wishes cows could be wild again.
Afraid of heights, it will tickle the tops of mountains right where it lies.
Beating away in the chest.
Big ornery thing.
Midwestern Heart.

Allmusic.com has 30-second sound samples of all the cuts on the album "Midwestern Heart." I listened to all of them, and none of them seems to be a poem. Most are songs; there are two instrumentals.

Thanks for your personal messages Peace, however internet addresses are of no help because as I said, Claudia herself does not communicate by e-mail because she does not "believe" in computers.

Hi, Joe; good to "see" you again. Thanks for your message. . . hope you're well these days. I've been gone from Mudcat for a long time, trying to create the perfect iris. Getting back to the subject of Miwestern Heart, it is definitely a poem but may not be on the album by the same name after all! As I said, it's been over twenty years since I've had these albums in my possession

cheers,

Aux

Hi, Aux - I have that CD somewhere - I'll see if I can find it. Claudia Schmidt does have a Website here (click). I wonder if she still lives on Beaver Island, on the Michigan side of Lake Michigan. I grew up on Lake Michigan, but never saw the Michigan side of it. Too far to go for Midwesterners...
-Joe Offer-

Alas, I don't have Midwestern Heart. I went to a Claudia Schmidt concert with the Love of My Life about ten years ago, and she bought one CD and I bought another. She ended up with another guy - and with the CD. But there will always be a soft spot in my Midwestern Heart for her.

Never mind; it's not that important. I have lived for the last twenty years without the album and it was just a stray thought. I knew Claudia Schmidt many years ago, you see and have lost contact with her. It would seem that she isn't personally contactable by internet, as she doesn't want anything to do with computers. Such is the battle to keep friends once one moves far away. . .

cheers,

Aux

Auxiris: I have been unable to find anything on it other than what I posted above. Any further info you have is a bonus. I'm thinking the only way to get the lyrics might be to get the CD.

It may be that, though I knew the text by the title Midwestern Heart; maybe it's been changed on the CD, which I never had. Does it include the phrase, "Loves too hard, expects too much"?

thanks,

Aux

That title is not showing on the list of 'songs' on the CD. Is it possible you mean the following poem?

"Schmidt's impish earthy alchemy came through, setting up a vernal Midwestern tone poem written with Sally Rogers, and called "Spring Flowers Goin' By." Embracing their theme of beauty and the soul's evanescence, Schmidt confided that the passing of her life-loving, if mischievous, Uncle Jack might've contributed to the song's creation. Apparently Uncle Jack had just slipped into a "Shit Happens" t-shirt while on vacation in Florida when the fatal heart attack hit.- Mitch Ritter (Berkeley, CA)"

Does anyone have the text for this poem? I know the title of the thread says lyric request, but it isn't a song. . . it's from an album by the same title, by Claudia Schmidt. I no longer have this recording; left all my vinyl back in the States when I moved to France.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide

cheers,

Aux
