I've lost the thread that was asking about this subject, so I figured I should start a new one. Here are three shops that specialize in used records. Midwesterners will often see Don" Recycled Records at various festivals in that region. We met him in Wisconsin and got on his mailing list.

Don's Recycled Records (Don Mormon)
I don't have the address handy,
but you can call him at:
708-825-5046

Rick's Records
346 Wickenden Street
Providence, RI.
401-421-4532

Still Records After All These Years
Michael Schonbach
6 Franklin Street
Northampton, MA 01060
413-580-0270

But think twice before you part with all those lovely vinyl dinosaurs!

Sandy

I just heard that CDs are only expected to have a life of 25 years. Not including the CD software going out of style and use. What a shame that will be to lose the recorded music so fast except for pieces deemed worthy (probably marketably) of re-releasing.
I much perferr vinyl because it is still possible to listen to tunes recorded 50 years ago and more. And I like feeling that i am helping to keep alive American music that would be lost if market were the only determinant.
I wonder how long we can expect tape (reel to reel and cassettes) to last?

Can it be that folks (outside of recording studios) still use reel to reel tape? It took me a couple years to transfer 300+ hours of reel to reel music to casettes and now I hear that the casettes should probably be burned onto CD, not to mention cleaned up at the same time. (Despite her best efforts my wife hasn't managed to get me to remove the big Dokorder reel deck from the living room and I keep a Sony backup in the basement). The family wants the tape deck in the mini van replaced with a CD player. I would like to have both but none of the local shops carry a car stereo with both tape & CD. Meanwhile I keep scrounging the shops and web sites for more vinyl.
