Subject: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Clinton Hammond Date: 16 Jun 06 - 04:26 PM I've got a couple of long mp3s from Folkalley.com (Check the Live From Folk Alley secion) Now I'm looking for software suggestions to break these long MP3s into seperate tracks WITHOUT a LOT of cutting and pasting and saving and resaving.... Anyone got any suggestions? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Declan Date: 16 Jun 06 - 04:45 PM I have a piece of Software called SonicStage Mastering Studio which does this job quite easily, as well as allowing noise reduction, track levelling etc. the software came budled with my (Sony) Viao laptop - I don't think the similarity between Sony and Sonic is a coincidence. I don't know if it is possible to purchase the software separately, but I would presume it is. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Bill D Date: 16 Jun 06 - 06:02 PM do you have Audacity? I thought it would do almost anything of that sort. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Bill D Date: 16 Jun 06 - 06:06 PM in any case, here is where I look first for free stuff. Pricelessware |

Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Clinton Hammond Date: 17 Jun 06 - 12:53 AM Software recommendations please.... Not free/share/crapware sites thanks.... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Bill D Date: 17 Jun 06 - 11:06 AM did you even look at Audacity, Clinton? Or anything else on that page? That was a software recommendation. Even free, it is better than 92% of the $$$ware programs you are so sure you can find a crack for. You do make it hard for anyone to feel like helping. 'nuff said...have fun digging on yer own. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Clinton Hammond Date: 17 Jun 06 - 12:12 PM I looked at Audacity.... it looks like a crumby version of exactly the same stuff CoolEdit will do.... Which is to say it'll do what I want, with a godsawful amount of cutting/pasting/resaving..... Something I'm looking to avoid.... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: IvanB Date: 17 Jun 06 - 02:04 PM Clinton, I hesitate to mention it, since I bought my copy for the princely sum of $2 and have been eligible for free upgrades ever since, but MP3 TrackMaker is a little program which does exactly what you want and not much else. Unfortunately, I see it's up to an outrageous $14.99 now. The unregistered version, however, is crippled only by its limitation of splitting an mp3 file into three tracks. Obviously, it could be used repeatedly to keep breaking down the tracks until you had individual songs. One feature I like about it is that it'll pick up the times from WinAmp (via a mouse click from you wherever you want a break) and make tracks accordingly. I've used it for several years now and never found anything that does the job better for me. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Clinton Hammond Date: 17 Jun 06 - 04:18 PM Looks like I might have to lay hands on WinAmp again.... Cause that seems to do the job IvanB.... Thanks! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: IvanB Date: 17 Jun 06 - 05:06 PM I can understand why you might not have WinAmp any more - it's sure gotten bloated in its latest versions. I'm still using 2.80. It's the last version that my Loopmaster and Pacemaker plugins work with. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Clinton Hammond Date: 18 Jun 06 - 10:49 AM I didn't have Winamp simply because Jetaudio is the best media player I've ever found... And I didn't want to have to remake 90 or so gigs of play lists to change players..... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Gene Date: 18 Jun 06 - 12:13 PM with NERO you can split and BURN an AUDIO CD from a humungous sized wave file...i often record an entire cassette or both sides of an LP or the 4 tracks of an 8-track as a single file.. NERO has a built-in wave editor but i also use a separate one called WAVE STUDIO... NERO//allows//you//to//insert//split//marks//between//each//song//in/the//LONG//file// the // double tick marks remove the extra time between tracks, if any were there...otherwise a single / does the job i have a friend who is real picky on the time between tracks.. but it is no biggie with me... NERO also allows you to quickly/easily sample/play any section/song of the entire file if you are picky...the wave viewer allows you to remove a split second from any place... i suppose you could remove the [RE] sound in Do-Re-Mi if you were a mind to.. i have tried dozens of other programs... but for me, NONE can hold a candle to NERO... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Clinton Hammond Date: 18 Jun 06 - 08:38 PM Which version of Nero? Cause I have it, but am unaware of such a feature |

Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: IvanB Date: 19 Jun 06 - 03:30 PM I have Nero 5, so I tried this out. You need to say you're making an audio disc to get the disc properties dialog to appear. When I added two 60 min mp3's to the compilation window, it showed the disc as overfilled. Double-clicking on an individual file to get the properties dialog worked, but it took the program almost a minute and a half to load the "oscilloscope" view so I could start play to add the split marks. As each split was added, play stopped and had to be restarted (albeit from the point of the split mark). The kicker was when I burned an image just to see what I got, Nero apparently decoded the file back to wave format - my image file was 1.2 gB. Since I always burn mp3's as data discs, I guess I stick with my present method. I have no long weights to make my split marks and it takes mp3 Trackmaker about 30 seconds to save the individual tracks from an hour long recording. It also leaves the original long file intact in case I need to do any fine tuning. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Gene Date: 19 Jun 06 - 07:00 PM FWIW DEPT: The TRICK is to: 1. SELECT the pre-recorded WAV file to be recorded to AUDIO CD 2. Observe the OBVIOUS breaks between songs on the SCOPE VIEWER and add TWO tic marks if you know there is space to eliminate. 3. click PLAY and expand the file 4 times (i use 5 because i am used to it) and now you can listen to any song shown on the SCREEN and fast forward and reverse and adjust the tic marks. 4. I burn to CD-RW if i only want mp3s and RIP using MUSIC MATCH JUKEBOX 5. of course it takes REAL TIME to record an LP/CAS/8-TRACK/RTReel file to WAV on the computer.. AFTER that i can process a 20 song AUDIO CD in appx 10-15 minutes and then BURN in 3-5 minutes with 56x burner. i know of no other system that works as well, or better or faster. ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: IvanB Date: 19 Jun 06 - 07:30 PM Gene, I swear by Nero for what it does also. However, Clinton's first post referred to splitting mp3's rather than wav's, so I assume he wants to shorten the mp3's into individual song files without decoding them. Nero seems to deal only with wave files, i.e., it decodes mp3's before splitting them. For dealing with mp3's without decoding then reencoding, I find MP3 Trackmaker the fastest and easiest solution I've found. Frankly, the slowest part of the whole process for me is redoing the ID3 tags so I have the proper song title, etc., on each track. This is in reference to folk shows recorded off the radio, so CDDB is not an option. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: Clinton Hammond Date: 20 Jun 06 - 12:04 PM Ivan is right.. I'm NOT converting these to wavs first.... They'd be WAY too big... and too much of a PitA! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Software:Add track-breaks to long Mp3s From: The Maverick Date: 03 Apr 12 - 03:38 PM Hi I wonder if you got anywhere with this? I download programmes like Folk Club (Radio Ulster), Travelling Folk (Radio Scotland), Celtic Heartbeat (Radio wales) using free software called radio downloader. I then use an SD card to get these to my car to listen to, however its a pain to have to listen to two or three tracks you cant stand becasue to jump to the next track takes you to the next radio programme. Has anyone managed to put breaks in these tracks? Ideally say every minute and the ability to do a batch of say 20 radio programmes at once. |
