Okay, surely *somebody* knows where that tune came from?

I remember it from when I was in primary school, around 1960, which is long before Sheena Wellington's song was written. The original was sung faster and more evenly I think it's a music-hall number.

Bunny, you could ask Hedo if he's got a recording. I seem to recall he reviewed one of Sheena's CDs but not which one.

The sleevenotes don't mention an older tune used for WoD.

The tune is not original, but I can't at the moment think where it came from.

But you don't want the tune, you want a recording of the song. For this one, performance style makes a very big difference.

The tune for "Smile in Your Sleep" (is that what you mean?) is "The Mist-Covered Mountains". Easily available on the net. You could probably work that one out well enough without hearing it sung.

Thanks for that. It's actually my other half looking, but she never gets round to resetting the cookie...

The festival is the Ludwigstein (Border of Hesse and Thuringia, so fairly much right in the centre of the country) European youth week. It's mainly a folk dance festival, but there is much singing involved as well, We're supposed to be teaching a couple of scottish songs to groups from half a dozen european countries

Try the 1990 CD 'Clearsong' by Sheena Wellington (who wrote it), or 'Eence Upon A Time' (2000) by Maureen Jelks. Both available from Greentrax.

Which German festival are you referring to, btw?
