Lord, I Don't Want to Die in the Storm
^^ as sung by Frank Wade
Recorded by Cortez Reece, 1950
Recorded on Work & Pray: Historic Negro Spirituals and Work Songs from West Virginia (WVU PRESS SA-4)
Transcribed by Charlie Baum

Lord, I don't want to die in the storm
Lord, I don't want to die in the storm
Let the wind blow East,
Let the wind blow West
Lord, I don't want to die in the storm

Lord my mother, she died in the storm
Lord my mother, she died in the storm
Let the wind blow East,
Let the wind blow West
Lord, I don't want to die in the storm

Well King Pharoah he died in the storm
Lord, King Pharoah he died in the storm
Let the wind blow East,
Let the wind blow West
Lord, I don't want to die in the storm

Thanks for posting.
Don't know what symbol you used for the apostrophe, but the normal ' on your keyboard is all that is needed.

Please post on the African-American Spirituals Permathread, 38686: Spirituals

Are there more on the Work and Pray recording?
Not in Cleveland Index.

I transcribed this in a word processing program (on my Mac) before cutting and pasting.

The Work and Pray recording contains 38 cuts. These are the songs I'm attempting to learn myself, and therefore transcribed for my own use. I figured I might as well share them with the world at large.

"Work and Pray: Historic Negro Spirituals and Work Songs from West Virgina," is available as a cd, West Virginia University Press or Camsco, etc.
I had not heard about this recording. Thanks for posting from it.
