The stuff that's regarded by many as the "classic" Freddy King tunes like "Hideaway" "Stumblin'" etc. were recorded for the King/Starday record company of Cincinatti. He re-recorded other versions of those tunes later in his career for other labels, but many, including myself, feel the original versions are best. You shoul read the label and look for the names King(no relation), or Starday.

I agree. There is a CD on King called LET'S HIDEAWAY & DANCEAWAY that has his best 50's instrumental hits. His recordings from the 60's & 70's (after he started singing) are pretty much a mixed bag. I suggest looking for live recordings for an idea of what he really sounded like, as opposed to studio recordings which tended to be over-produced, especially in the 70's. There is also a video of his performances on a TV show called THE BEAT!!! This was an Indianapolis-based show hosted by Hoss Allen that was kind of like a R&B version of "American Bandstand". I have seen this video advertised is several blues magazines, so I know it is obtainable.
