Subject: Lyr Add: FLYIN' SHOES (Terry Pinnegar) From: Genie Date: 20 Jun 06 - 03:10 PM I won't post the full lyrics to this song, because I have not yet received permission from the artist who wrote and recorded it, but I do want to draw attention to it and post a link where you can hear a good clip from it (and other Pinnegar songs) and order it. My beloved "little sister" had been battling -- and I do mean battling -- a very aggressive form of cancer for years, beating the docs' time-left projections by over 7 years. This May, having been unusually "connected" to the "other side" since childhood and having been deeply involved with spiritual pursuits during her years of having one foot on each side, she decided the next life was looking much more beautiful than this one. So she let go and, I believe, has now got her "flyin' shoes" on. Her husband discovered Terry Pinnegar's song a few days afterward and felt it spoke eloquently about her journey and her feelings about it. So do I. Here is part of the lyrics (the part you can hear in the online clip): FLYIN' SHOES (Terry Pinnegar) I see The way you're lookin' at me Ev'ry time I walk your way. You can see my time Is as thin as a dime, But you can't see What to say. Chorus: Have you forgotten Just where I'm bound When this burden I've carried so long is gone? Stop wringin' your hands, Start ringin' some bells! If you want to help me, Help me get my Flyin' Shoes on! If you want to help me, Help me get my Flyin' Shoes on! I hear The songs you're singin' for me And I love The way God's love sounds. ... Listen to clips here: Flyin' Shoes (Terry Pinnegar) at CDBaby.com You can also buy the CD there. |
Subject: Lyr Add: FLYIN' SHOES (Terry Pinnegar) From: Genie Date: 24 Jun 06 - 04:14 PM Terry Pinnegar emailed me and graciously said "GO FOR IT!" in reply to my request to post the full lyrics here at Mudcat, so here they are: FLYIN' SHOES (Terry Pinnegar) I see The way you're lookin' at me Ev'ry time I walk your way. I close my eyes And it's the pain that dies And I see myself Just floating above the ground. (Chorus) Bridge: I know my time is near, I feel the spirit here. I know I might not see tomorrow. I see a brand new day Breaking a brand new way And I will not again know sorrow. I was born in style And a beautiful smile. I can't help it, I was just bound to astound. Think of the colors I'll wear When I'm dancing up there While the heavenly choir sings Standing on holy ground! Last chorus: Have you forgotten Just where I'm bound When this burden I've carried so long is gone? Stop wringin' your hands, Start ringin' some bells! If you want to help me, Help me get my Flyin' Shoes on! - Don't just stand there! - If you want to help me, child, Help me get my Flyin' Shoes on! Although it's not the same tune, this song has a lot of the sound and feel of CCNY's "Teach Your Children." I just love it! |
Subject: RE: Add: Flyin' Shoes (Terry Pinnegar) From: Genie Date: 26 Jun 06 - 02:46 PM Terry Pinnegar told me the story of the beautiful woman this song was written for. The last verse is especially appropriate for her. I am hoping he will tell that story here soon. Genie |
Subject: Lyr Add: FLYIN' SHOES (Townes Van Zandt) From: Jim Dixon Date: 27 Aug 17 - 01:47 AM I can't help but think these two songs have a similar theme. FLYIN' SHOES Townes Van Zandt As recorded by Townes Van Zandt on "Flyin' Shoes" (1978) Days full o' rain The sky's comin' down again I get so tired o' these same ol' blues Same old song Baby, it won't be long Till I'll be tyin' on my flyin' shoes Flyin' shoes Till I'll be tyin' on my flyin' shoes Spring only sighed Summer had to be satisfied Fall is a feelin' that I just can't lose I'd like to stay Maybe watch a winter day Turn the green water to white an' blue Flyin' shoes, flyin' shoes Till I'll be tyin' on my flyin' shoes The mountain moon Forever sets too soon Bein' alone is all the hills can do Alone and then Her silver sails again And they will follow in Their flyin' shoes Flyin' shoes They will follow in Their flyin' shoes REPEAT FIRST VERSE [This song was covered by Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, and others.] |
