Is the Wail on this year, and if so, where?

For those who don't know, this is an excellent little festival in Deepest England, traditionally held near Wareham in Dorset (near Bournemouth), last year moved to near Ringwood (near Southampton).

Actually never particularly near anywhere.

No booked guests, no concerts, just lots and lots of unaccompanied singing, choruses and harmonies (and the infamous mediaeval banquet - with the emphasis on the 'evil')

So, is it on? Is it back at Wareham?

People need to know.

I understand from Alan White that little will be done about the Wail until after Sidmouth. He is rather busy organising the Sidmouth camp site and other events for that festival.

But I understand that The Wail will occur.

It has to cos JudeL and John Henry are handfasting and Micca is officiating. At least that is what I heard at Miskin.

The usual dates are the weekend after Towersey which this year will mean that the Wail will occur over the first weekend in September. Unless of course Alan has to rearrnage things.

It is looking unlikely that Micca and I will be aable to make the Wail this due due to logistic problems.

Its a shame because it's a wonderful little festival which we very much enjoy.

We'll be there, barring unforseen circumstances.

Apart from anything else, the campsite is by the River Crane. There's a close near there called 'Crane Drive', which makes for a good photo.

Try [e-mail]. As was mentioned earlier in the thread, Alan White is involved in organising Sidmouth Festival, so hasn't had much time to follow up the early publicity for the Wail.

The Wail moved last year from a farm in Wareham (because the campsite was being sold for redevelopment) to a farm in Verwood (near Monmouth Ash). If you like unaccompanied song, lots of harmonies, cream teas, mediaeval banquets (medieval costume optional) and having a good time, this festival is for you.

This year's weekend season ticket costs £19.50 including banquet and camping).

MBS George - the best thing I ever got for Limpit was one of those expanding dog leads that you can set at a particular length or let it spring back. Put her in walking reins, clipped the lead to the reins, pegged the handle of the lead down with a chair/table/foot/tent peg and she was free to roam within a range of my choosing... also great for snapping the little darling back when she ran off in the opposite direction.

RE above, the fates seem to be seriously against us at the moment It's not just our plans for the handfasting that have been upset. We set off early this morning to go help set up, got as far as denham road ( that's sorta between uxbridge & slogh) was involved in a RTA which wrote off our caravan. So are currently at home licking our wounds ( all emotional & financial, I stress) and sorting out the aftermath such as producing documents at police station & contacting insurance company. The van having been hit by a lorry is not so much wrecked as matchsticked. We hope to get down sometime saturday, if so see you there if not enjoy. Cheers Jude

just got back from the Wail. What a super night we had at the medieval banquet last night. Didn't realise it was after 3.00 o'clock when we went to bed. The singing was so good.

Home! We had a good trip back to Cornwall, though Hawker had some sort of seizure in the camper on the way home, he has lost some of the use of his back legs, we are off to the vets in the morning - the reassuring thing is that he has not lost his apetite, but then, that doesn't surprise me.
Thanks Alan, the team and all you lovely lot out there, for a fantastic weekend, which to me felt more like a party than a festival. Great singing (from you all, apologies for the whispered songs from me), great food, great fun banquet and wow did I really see the dawn break this morning? - as my 15 year old said, MUM! Big agreement with all our friends about how fantastic the Wail was this year. Beautiful singing everyone - good effort! Especially lovely were the brave little teeny bands of bods who maintained the "quiet" sings in the 'other' marquee each night (cheers Cllr) - I really enjoyed those!

Thank you to those who were on the same banquet table as me - a great larf was had by all - highly impressed with the cunning plot and a bloody grand execution of the kidnap! I advocate a proper introduction of jousting competitions on Sunday morning next year if the weather is fair! FUN FUN FUN!

What a wonderful weekend. As everyone has remarked, the banquet was hilarious, and the kidnapping and rescue of my fair lady took the nonsense to new heights.

Oh, and we did sing as well: loud or soft, fast or slow, sad or happy - they all helped to make it a most memorable weekend.

Seriously, truly lovely weekend, lots of excellent singing, lots of friends, sharing a special (if sometimes crazy) time together.

Little Hawker a lot better now, is able to jump up to the table and steal food today, have been told to see how he goes and that dogs usually recover quite quickly from this sort of thing, that seems to be the case, and hopefully its just a blip. Glad the low loader got you & Jon back safely Cats, hope the broken nail is now growing, Rosie and that there were no other ill effects from the 'kidnap'! my piccies are done and I will put them somewhere soon!!!!!

Sorry we had to desert our usual duties in running the bottom tent on Saturday evening, but a big thank you to Mike (Cllr) for stepping in and taking control and piloting the evening We got back for the last hour and the singing was excellent.

Gosh, Steve, I hadn't realised it was your first Wail as well as Seaking's - I guess it's because MBS get everywhere (and I think were probably on every table at the banquet). Glad you enjoyed it and want to do it again!
