Are we talking about...

"Lough Ree, Lough Ree, where the three counties meet: Longford, Westmeath and Roscommon..."

a waltz?

Where The Three Counties Meet

Oh how lovely to be on the shores of Lough Ree
On a beautiful mid summer's morning
Looking over the lake, as the bright waters break
By the hills of the County Roscommon
I left my home, in the town of Athlone
On the way to the Three Jolly Pigeons
It was near Glasson town, on the road I sat down
And looked over the beautiful Shannon

Chorus
Lough Ree, oh Lough Ree, where the three counties meet
Longford, Westmeath and Roscommon
As I stroll round her banks, by the heather and peat
They're the memories I've never forgotten

Oh sad was the day, that I went away
To work among timbers and concrete
For now as a man, I must follow life's plan
(or I must name me a man, for to follow life's span)
I forsook the dear place of my homeland
If God grants me grace, I'll return to the place
When the sunset of life has come o'er me
Once again on these shores, like a bird my heart soars
As I gaze on the beauty around me

Regards Mick Bracken^^

"Glasson", referred to in this song, is a very nice little village outside Athlone. Thre's a regular session there every Wednesday night - and yours truly has been known to sing at it!

The Three Jolly Pigeons is a very nice pub a few miles away. Roscommon, of course, is where our new CD comes from! See "Roscommon" thread.

By the way:
Dan
I'm again in an email black hole. I hear youi're coming to Roscommon on tour - will contact you later.

Regards

It seems that the Three Jolly Pigeons has a long history of conviviality . I was just reading at the link below about Oliver Goldsmith visiting ,

"the Three Jolly Pigeons, where he took a prominent part in the con
vivialities of the inn."
